Overview

Manual Driving Instructors are responsible for safely training new vehicle operators, scaling the essential skills to become effective autonomous drivers. Instructors develop a unique set of skills to accommodate different learning styles and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure a consistent training program across the organization. Professional, clear, concise feedback for trainees is expected. Safety is the #1 responsibility.

Pay Rate

$33.00 - $38.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a full‑time manual driving instructor during new hire class cycles, including one full day of track instruction and four additional days of classroom and driving responsibilities.
  • Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle.
  • Demonstrate advanced situational awareness and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Conduct classroom sessions and training presentations for new operators.
  • Set up, break down, care for, and manage all course material and equipment.
  • Coordinate new training sessions weekly with training leadership and onsite staff.
  • Incorporate the latest autonomous vehicle systems into training and maintain consistency across the organization.
  • Safely orchestrate training for multiple trainees simultaneously, both inside a vehicle and on a closed course.
  • Participate in meetings for training improvement and discuss trainee feedback.
  • Flag major driver safety concerns to local safety and training managers.
  • Work occasional overtime and travel to offsite training locations as needed.
  • Adapt to different learning styles and respond quickly to high‑pressure environments.
  • Set a professional example for less experienced Operations Drivers.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous defensive driving instructor experience (e.g., driving school, DMV road testing, high‑performance driving) preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months operating and testing autonomous vehicles.
  • Proven safe driving habits and clean safety record.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency with laptop and GSuite applications (Gmail, Chat, Drive, Sheets, Docs).
  • Proficiency with touchscreen smartphones (Android preferred).
  • Typing speed of at least 40 adjusted words per minute.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to describe thoughts concisely.
  • Capability to respond quickly to multiple scenarios simultaneously.
  • Effective verbal and written cross‑functional communication and issue escalation.
  • Availability to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.
  • Self‑motivation and sound judgment in fast‑paced, high‑stress environments.
  • Leadership skills for supervising large groups and leading classroom sessions.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Long periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Use hands for manipulation and communication; climb stairs and ladders.
  • Occasional reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Pew spin lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Full use of vision—distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Predominantly outdoors in a vehicle.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
  • Safety‑sensitive positions require a physical screening.
  • Drug‑free workplace; may require participation in a random drug screening program.
  • Right to perform ongoing background checks; criminal history considered within legal limits.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record suitable for driving duties, monitored regularly.
  • Ability to qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license where required.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship (for US applicants).
