Kid Stock becomes part of the school day! Students strengthen their storytelling skills, move their bodies, and use their voices in the classroom, before showcasing what they’ve learned in performances for family and friends. Schools meet key curriculum standards in dance, music and theater in a program to meet the needs of the school.

During the school year, Kid Stock provides In-School programs at many Bay Area schools and we are looking for Teaching Artists to teach dance, song and/or drama at these school programs.

You would need to be consistently available during the school day at least one and up to five days per week. On our day(s) at a school, we rotate through various classes from TK-8th grade teaching and practicing their part in the school-wide performance at the end of the semester.

To apply, you should have some experience and like working with kids. Additionally, you should have some experience with and/or passion for the arts/theater.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Program Manager, Teaching Artists facilitate daily instruction and activities for TK to 8th grade students in one or more arts disciplines. Teaching artists plan and implement one or more of the following as assigned by their supervisor: skills- and performance-based lessons on subjects including but not limited to voice, dance, acting and performance technique; music and dance theory;

choreography; improvisation; and arts & crafts. Teaching artists are assigned to 1-5 in-school sites per semester and teach up to 9 classes per day/per site. Each class runs 30min - 50 min long, with 15 - 35 students per class.

GENERAL

ACCOUNTABILITIES :
  • In partnership with a co-teacher, ensures all performance elements (such as songs, dances, dialogue, blocking, and/or other acting/performance techniques) of 1 - 5, 30 - 60 cast size children's musical theater productions per semester are performance ready.
  • Under the direction of the PM, coordinates delegation of instruction and content preparation responsibilities per class and per production (i.e. songs instruction, dance choreo and instruction, and drama direction) between self, Co-Teaching Artist, and when applicable Assistant Teaching Artist, and Director In Training
  • Ensures all content is taught timely, and through methods in keeping with Kid Stock’s core values and norms.

    - Follows the daily schedule and procedures set forth by the Program Manager and shool site, making appropriate adjustments as needed.

    - Leads casting discussion in collaboration with Co-Teaching Artist(s) and when applicable Assistant Teaching Artist(s) in keeping with the company policy that every student receives a part and all parts are equally valuable.
  • Evaluates lesson flow per class and adjusts daily content to meet student needs and s chool site needs.
  • Balances group and individual lessons for performance preparation.
  • Maintain overall school site culture and curriculum.
  • Assesses instruction goals/needs and plans classes accordingly
  • Adjusts quickly to sudden changes in schedule, school climate, and/or production realities (eg. workshop attentiveness, camper absences, etc.)
  • Maintains organized lessons for each school assigned and demonstrates mastery and retention of all Kid Stock curriculum at each assigned school, and for each individual class. (1- 4 schools, 4-9 classes per day)
  • Memorizes or creates easy reference for all students individual names (90 - 800
  • Observes, enforces, and executes requirements of Kid Stock’s Health & Safety Plan
  • Teaches with age-appropriate classroom management techniques and disciplinary practices.

    - Meets with SD or PM frequently, no less than once per day to give status reports on their pod’s progress, successes, staff concerns, schedule adjustments, needs etc.
  • Takes initiative and uses professional expertise to understand, meet, and contribute to the growth of current company and school culture, mission, and curriculum expectations. (1-4 schools)
  • Facilitate activities for 10-30 students such as pick up/drop off, snack time, breaks, etc.
