OVERVIEW The International Admissions Counselor role at San Francisco State University focuses on supporting international and foreign-educated undergraduate applicants throughout the admissions and enrollment process. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment, this full-time probationary staff position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with university, CSU, and Title 5 policies. The position combines application evaluation, student advising, and cross-campus collaboration to support international student enrollment.

Key

responsibilities
  • Coordinate admissions and enrollment processes for international and foreign-educated undergraduate students in compliance with Title 5, CSU, and SFSU policies
  • Review undergraduate admission applications for international and foreign-educated applicants
  • Assess academic records and determine residency for tuition purposes
  • Perform international credential evaluations
  • Update and maintain student records
  • Advise prospective and current students on admissions requirements, transfer planning, enrollment processes, residency policies, and options for denied applicants
  • Support I-20 processing for incoming F-1 students in collaboration with the Office of International Programs
  • Conduct transfer credit articulation
  • Perform other assigned duties as required by the department
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Typically two years of professional experience in student services or a related area
  • Master’s degree may substitute for one year of required professional experience
  • Availability for some evening, weekend, and off-campus travel WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS International Admissions Counselors are essential to ensuring equitable and accurate admissions decisions for students educated outside the United States. This role helps international students navigate complex admissions, residency, and enrollment systems while supporting institutional compliance and academic standards. By bridging admissions operations and student advising, the position contributes directly to student access, enrollment success, and institutional internationalization goals.
