The Physics Department at City College of San Francisco seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to teach a range of physics courses, including conceptual, algebra-based, and calculus-based physics lecture and laboratory courses. The department serves students pursuing majors in engineering, physics, computer science, life sciences, health sciences, and other STEM disciplines, as well as students completing general education requirements. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-centered instruction, equity-minded teaching practices, and maintaining rigorous academic and laboratory standards.

In addition to excellence in teaching, the successful candidate will actively contribute to the growth and continuous improvement of the department through curriculum development, assessment, program review, and participation in departmental and college governance. The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues to support student success, develop and improve laboratory curriculum and instructional materials, mentor students pursuing STEM transfer pathways, and advance the mission of City College of San Francisco through service, innovation, and leadership.

1. Teach assigned in-person lecture and laboratory courses in physics in accordance with approved course outlines of record. Faculty may also be assigned to teach hybrid or online courses consistent with departmental needs and college policies.

2. Prepare and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that supports diverse learning styles and promotes student success.

3. Develop, administer, and evaluate examinations, laboratory activities, and other assessments aligned with course learning outcomes.

4. Maintain accurate academic records and submit grades and other required reports in a timely manner.

5. Utilize the college's learning management system (Canvas) to post course materials, communicate with students, maintain grades, and support student engagement.

6. Hold regularly scheduled in-person office hours and provide academic advising, mentoring, and timely support to students.

7. Maintain safe laboratory environments consistent with institutional policies and laboratory safety regulations.

8. Participate in curriculum development and revision, including the design and continuous improvement of laboratory experiments, instructional materials, and course content.

9. Participate in student learning outcomes assessment, program review, accreditation activities, and other institutional planning and evaluation processes.

10. Serve on departmental, school, and college committees and actively participate in shared governance, including regular attendance at in-person meetings as required.

11. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student recruitment, retention, transfer, and degree completion, particularly for students pursuing STEM pathways.

12. Mentor students regarding transfer preparation, academic planning, undergraduate research opportunities, and careers in physics, engineering, and related STEM fields.

13. Participate in in-person and virtual outreach activities, departmental events, and other college functions that promote the Physics Department and encourage student participation in STEM programs.

14. Integrate appropriate instructional technologies, laboratory equipment, simulation software, and data acquisition tools into coursework.

15. Maintain currency in the discipline through ongoing professional development, scholarly engagement, and the adoption of effective teaching practices.

16. Participate in in-person and virtual departmental meetings, commencement, professional development activities, and other faculty responsibilities as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

17. Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of a full-time, tenure-track faculty member.
