Employee Type: Seasonal, 22 hours per week
Schedule: Monday through Friday, generally from 1-6pm.
Pay: $32.44 per hour
Location: Onsite at one of our school sites in San Francisco, CA (Argonne Elementary School, Lafayette Elementary School, Alamo Elementary School, George Peabody Elementary School)
JOB DUTIES:The Activity Leader provides a safe, caring, positive, and engaging learning environment for students. They plan and facilitate enrichment activities, athletics, academic support, and community-building experiences for youth in grades TK-5. Depending on site assignment, an Activity Leader may lead a group of up to 20 students (TK: 10 students), coach a team, work with a small group, or provide one-on-one support to a student with additional needs.
Programming may span sports, multicultural arts, wellness, homework support, STEAM, social-emotional learning, restorative practice, and more.
- Build authentic, strength-based relationships with all youth and maintain consistent positive rapport throughout the program.
- Plan and facilitate daily and weekly inclusive enrichment activities adapted to the developmental, cultural, physical, and individual needs of participants. Include clear plans, expectations, and goals for each activity.
- Write and submit lesson plans and supply requests on time, in alignment with program and funder requirements.
- Model SEL skills, facilitate student engagement and behavior management using these strategies. Foster a positive and inclusive culture through clear communication and mutual respect.
- Lead field trips, off-campus activities / athletic events, and cross-site collaborations with prior Program Manager approval.
- For students requiring specialized 1:1 support: create a daily activity plan aligned with the student's goals, apply positive behavior intervention and de-escalation strategies, support social skill development, assist with daily living skills as needed, and maintain detailed records of behavior and growth.
- At least six months working directly with youth in an educational, after school, or community setting.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and lead engaging activities for young people.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Background in restorative practices, STEAM, sports, wellness, social-emotional learning, and / or multicultural arts
- Connector: you genuinely like kids and know how to build trust with them, including the ones who have been historically marginalized or who need more effort.
- Presence: you can manage group dynamics, redirect behavior, and keep things moving without losing the group.
- Equity-minded: you understand why cultural relevance and youth voice matter, and you build that into your work, not just your language.
- Reliable: you show up on time and you follow through.
- (Highly Preferred) Bilingual — especially Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, or Spanish
- (Preferred) Experience with students with special needs or IEP/504 plans
- (Preferred) Former SFUSD student, especially from Richmond District schools
- DOJ Live Scan Fingerprinting:
All employees with contact with youth under 18 must be fingerprinted per DOJ procedures. We cannot employ individuals convicted of a serious or violent felony as defined by the California Penal Code. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records on a case-by-case basis. - TB Test: A current tuberculin skin test or lung X-ray (negative result) is required prior to reporting for duty.
