Underthedirectionofthe Program Site Director ,the Student Behavior Support Specialist providesbehavioralandsocial-emotionalsupporttostudentsparticipatinginthe
Tenderloin Community School YMCA After School Program. The role builds positive relationships with students, supports emotional regulation and conflict resolution, and helps students fully engage in program activities. Working in partnership with YMCA staff and school-day personnel, the Student Behavior Support Coordinator promotes a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages student success.
Student Support&Social Emotional Development
- Provideproactiveandresponsivesupporttostudentswhoneedadditionalassistance withbehavior,emotional regulation,transitions,peerinteractions,orparticipationin program activities.
- Build strong,consistentrelationshipswithstudents,includingthosewhorequire ongoing behavioral or social-emotional support.
- Use restorative practices, positive behavior supports, conflict resolution, and de-escalationstrategiestohelpstudentsregulateemotionsandsuccessfullyre-engage in program activities.
- Supportstudentsbefore,during,andafterbehavioralincidents,includingfacilitating successful re-entry into program activities.
- Identifystudentstrengths,support needs,triggers,andeffectivesupportstrategies, and communicate relevant observations to YMCA leadership and appropriate school partners.
- Provideindividualandsmall-groupsupportusingastudent-centered,culturally responsive, and strengths-based approach.
- Partnerwiththe Site Coordinator and Program Leaderstopromoteconsistent behavior support practices and positive group environments.
- Modeleffectiverelationship-building,redirection,restorativeresponses,andde-escalation strategies for program staff.
- Support Program Leadersduringsituationsrequiringadditionalstudentsupportwhile reinforcing staff ownership of group management and program expectations.
- Participateinprogramactivitiesandprovidedirectstudentsupervisionasneeded while maintaining the primary focus on student support.
- Communicatestudentsupportneeds,interventions,andfollow-upactionstothe Program Site Director in a timely and professional manner.
- Buildcollaborativerelationshipswithteachers,school administrators,student support staff, and other school partners.
- Workwithschool-daystafftounderstandeffectivestrategies,routines,and supports that help students successfully transition into the after school program.
- Participateinstudentsupportmeetings,programmeetings,andcasediscussionsas assigned while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
