The Child Development and Family Studies Department invites applicants to join our efforts in preparing teachers and education professionals, and providing parent education for San Francisco and the Bay Area. The Child Development and Family Studies Department offers a wide variety of classes that meet graduation and transfer requirements as well as courses designed to train students for careers in Early Childhood education.

The ideal candidate will share the college's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population and be knowledgeable about culturally responsive teaching techniques and effective practices for engaging diverse communities who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional classrooms and educational settings. The candidate will have broad knowledge of the ECE field to contribute innovative programs and teaching

Job Duties:

1. Teach credit and/or non-credit classes in the Child Development and Family Studies Department as required for certification by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for the Child Development Permits, Community Care Licensing for Child Care Programs, for use in K-12 pre service pathways, and for certificate and degree acquisition and transfer.

2. Teach evening, late afternoon, day, and/or Saturday classes as required.

3. Teach courses in various formats such as in-person, hybrid, and online, utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System (or college provided systems)

4. Create a student-centered classroom and lesson plans that reflect approved department course outlines.

5. Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress including, but not limited to: developing a syllabus, grading, record-keeping, designing written lesson plans, classroom activities, related assignments, student learning outcome assessments.

6. Evaluate student performance and progress through in-class observation, assignments, and tests.

7. Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress.

8. Be available and accessible to students when necessary, including holding office hours.

9. Respond to student disciplinary issues and work with supervisor and other appropriate campus offices to ensure that student and faculty rights are respected.

10. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, class lists and academic progress.

11. Submit census, attendance reports, grades and student learning outcomes, including supporting documentation, by the published deadlines.

12. Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy.

13. Submit textbook and course materials information by the published deadlines.

14. Participate in department functions such as attend meetings, curriculum development, course revisions and course assessments.

15. Support and engage in innovative, culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist teaching practices related to student success and student equity.

16. Keep abreast of current information, concepts, policies, laws and ideas in the field and with best practices in teaching and learning.

17. Support and engage in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

18. Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

19. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Home Economics/Family and Consumer Studies with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, Educational Psychology with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education; OR THE EQUIVALENT;

OR

Earned a Bachelor's Degree in any of the above from an accredited institution AND earned Masters Degree from an accredited institution in Social Work, Educational Supervision, Elementary Education, Special Education, Psychology, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Life…
