Position description

Faculty Positions - Master of Science in Regulatory Science and Digital Innovation (RSDI)
Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences
School of Pharmacy
University of California, San Francisco

The Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences (BTS) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for full-time faculty positions in the Adjunct Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank.

These positions will support the newly established Master of Science in Regulatory Science and Digital Innovation (RSDI), an innovative graduate program launching in Summer 2027. The program is designed to prepare future leaders in regulatory science, digital health, artificial intelligence, medical product development, and global regulatory strategy through two academically equivalent pathways: a full‑time Foundational Track and a hybrid Executive Track.

The RSDI program was developed in collaboration with FDA scientists, industry leaders, and UCSF faculty and represents a major institutional investment in the future of regulatory science education.

We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Product Development, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership
  • Digital Regulatory Science, including AI/ML-enabled medical products, Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), digital health, regulatory informatics, and real-world evidence
  • Global Regulatory Strategy and Quality Systems, including multinational regulatory submissions, international harmonization frameworks, the WHO prequalification program, and quality management systems.

Successful candidates will contribute to graduate education through course leadership, curriculum development, academic advising, and program service. Faculty members will serve as course directors, supervise capstone projects and master’s theses, participate in admissions and curriculum committees, and collaborate with academic, industry, healthcare, and regulatory partners. One faculty member will also serve as Associate Director of the program with broader leadership responsibilities within the RSDI program.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will engage in research and scholarship in regulatory science, broadly defined, encompassing areas such as toxicology, clinical pharmacology, small‑molecule and biologic therapeutics, novel modalities, medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health. Research employing computational, quantitative, data‑driven, or other approaches that do not require dedicated laboratory space is particularly encouraged.

Candidates must possess a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, PharmD, MD, DrPH, ScD) or equivalent terminal degree (e.g. JD, MBA) in a relevant discipline. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the areas designated above, as well as evidence of excellence or strong potential for excellence in graduate‑level teaching and student mentorship.

Preferred qualifications include experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, or digital health sectors; experience working with or collaborating with regulatory agencies; experience in graduate or executive education; and demonstrated leadership in academic, industry, governmental, or professional settings.

The selected candidate(s) will be appointed in the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences within the UCSF School of Pharmacy.
