Position:

The High School Learning Support Assistant fosters student accountability and growth by proactively and collaboratively managing the scheduling and administration of assessments for students with specific accommodations. Additionally, this position supports the High School team, classroom teachers, and advisors in providing and implementing clear expectations for students who have missed deadlines. The High School Learning Support Assistant is instrumental in ensuring a calm and productive learning and assessment environment for assessments, including in the Student Success Center and during study hall.

Reporting to the Director of Student Support, this position facilitates a growth-oriented, asset-based environment in the Student Success Center, supporting executive function development in all students.

Focus and Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with classroom teachers, learning specialists, and students to organize, schedule, and supervise testing for students with specific accommodations, ensuring that all accommodations are provided and that students take assessments in a timely manner
  • Stay apprised of specific accommodations for each student and support the learning specialist in communicating with classroom teachers regarding accommodations
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students, classroom teachers, and advisors to support accountability for students with late work and missing assessments:
    • Use Blackbaud and Toddle to access and cross-check reports on missing work
    • Support faculty, advisors, the Dean, and the learning specialist in communicating with students and families regarding late work and missed assessments, including expectations for attendance at study hall and Saturday School
  • Organize and supervise testing for students who have missed assessments, including ensuring test security and communicating proactively with faculty and staff
  • With classroom teachers and the learning specialist, provide instructions to substitute teachers regarding assessment procedures and student accommodations
  • Provide instructions for Saturday School supervisors regarding assessments as well as work to be completed during each session
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance in the Student Success Center, assigned study hall, and Saturday School
  • Assist the learning specialist in completing required documentation for accommodations on standardized testing
  • Maintain functionality and manage security for the devices used by the Student Success Center to provide accommodations for students, ensuring smooth functioning of those devices and following up with the Education and Information Technology team for any needed repairs or updates
  • Maintain secure storage and record-keeping for loaner devices and chargers
  • Ensure supervision in the HS Learning Commons after school hours, either by providing coverage or by organizing colleagues to do so
  • Proctor standardized testing as assigned
  • Maintain a positive, calm testing environment for students in the Student Success Center and study hall
  • Interact with students using a growth and asset-based approach and support the development of executive function skills
  • Additional duties as assigned
