As part of the Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance (ERSEA) Head Start/Early Head Start and Title 5 teams within the Family Access and Engagement team, this position serves as the agency’s subject matter expert and content specialist on all attendance matters. The Coordinator acts as the primary point of contact for interpreting Head Start, CDE/CDSS, and local attendance mandates, establishing best-practice frameworks for tracking, chronic absenteeism prevention, and data analysis.

Key duties include reviewing, tracking, and coding attendance for Head Start/Early Head Start center-based and FCCHEN program options, approving child applications, and maintaining daily communication with center staff. Additionally, the role designs targeted attendance intervention strategies, leverages community resources to reduce participation barriers, and prepares specialized attendance reports for program monitoring.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Attendance Content Leadership & Strategy:
    Serve as the subject matter expert on Head Start, Early Head Start, and state attendance policies. Lead the design, execution, and continuous revision of agency-wide attendance protocols, intervention models, and best-practice guidance.
  • Systemic Attendance Analysis:
    Conduct deep-dive data analyses to uncover systemic patterns, seasonal dips, and demographic trends driving absenteeism. Use these insights to author specialized reports, present actionable recommendations to leadership, and design targeted attendance initiatives.
  • Technical Assistance & Content

    Coaching:

    Act as the primary content specialist delivering expert technical assistance, coaching, and onboarding to Center Managers, Family Service Specialists, and FCCHEN providers regarding attendance protocols and attendance software.
  • Attendance Intervention Development:
    Oversee the content and implementation of Attendance Action Plans. Author standardized guidelines to help site staff diagnose root causes of absenteeism and apply targeted, trauma-informed interventions
Education requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Socail Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Public Administration, Family Studies, or a related field preferred, or ability to demonstrate work-related equivalency.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of the San Francisco community and resources available to children and families.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct service experience with children and families in community-based settings and/or school programs.
  • Minimum of 2 years of data entry, data management, or program tracking experience.
  • Experience supporting eligibility, enrollment, attendance, family access, family engagement, or related human services functions preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program requirements, policies, and procedures while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to track and reconcile large quantities of data and documents.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to train, guide, and collaborate with staff and families.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn and use data systems; experience with Child Plus, Care Connect, M-Sign, Excel, or similar systems preferred.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while meeting daily deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse children, families, staff, and community partners.
