Overview

of the Position

The Special Education Department is committed to providing innovative, effective services resulting in positive outcomes for the life-long success of students. In compliance with State and Federal regulations, specially designed instruction and related services are designed to meet the individual needs of students eligible for a “Free and Appropriate Education,” as outlined in each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP).

The Special Education Services goals are program excellence, fiscal responsibility, public relations, and equity centered professional learning and leadership.

Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Special Education Supervisor of Non Public Schools is responsible for partnering in the development, coordination, and facilitation of Special Education services for students who are eligible for special education services delivered in our contracted Non-Public Schools (NPS) and Residential Treatment Centers (RTC). This position supports the development of educational services, coordinates with other SFUSD teams and external NPS staff and other agencies to enhance available educational services, and to provide support in meeting district, state, and federal accountability requirements through innovative approaches and models.

Responsibilities

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the Supervisor, you will:

  • Support the design, implementation and monitoring of the Related Services, Early Education, Private/Parochial special education systems and structures, pertaining to student assessments, plan development, service delivery and required consultation and collaboration with SFUSD, Private/Parochial, NPS and RTC school staff and students families.
  • Provide leadership and team support in the identification, evaluation, design, dissemination, implementation, and progress monitoring of special education services to students who meet eligibility criteria within SFUSD schools, NPS and the Private and Parochial school setting, grades PK-12+
  • Ensure alignment of all district practices to special education laws and regulations
  • Ensure accurate data collection and documentation of individualized service and educational plans (ISP/IEPs) within our Special Education Information System (SEIS)
  • Collaborate with and provides communication strategies and recommendations to Principals and case managers, families and community agencies concerning their special education programs, services and educational opportunities for children with disabilities who are enrolled in SFUSD, NPS or parentally placed in Private/Parochial schools;
  • Provide collaborative consultation support to site administrators, instructional staff, and related service providers on federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies governing special education programs;
    Monitor the ADR and/or compliance cases re: the effectiveness of the instructional program and make recommendations ongoing to the appropriate SPED administrator for follow-through
