Overview

of the Position

The Special Education Department is committed to providing innovative, effective services resulting in positive outcomes for the life-long success of students. In compliance with State and Federal regulations, specially designed instruction and related services are designed to meet the individual needs of students eligible for a "Free and Appropriate Education", as outlined in each student's Individual Education Program (IEP).

The Special Education Services goals are program excellence, fiscal responsibility, public relations, and equity centered professional learning and leadership.

Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Special Education Supervisor of Curriculum and Intervention is responsible for the fidelity of implementation of curriculum specifically targeting the needs of students with IEP's. This supervisor possesses a deep understanding of intervention, in general, and SFUSD's curriculum, specifically. These curriculum include, but are not limited to:
Teach Town, Spire, Read
180, IXL, Goalbook, Imagine Math, Into Reading, Creative Curriculum. This supervisor partners closely with the Curriculum and Instruction Department in order to ensure that students with IEP's in the General Education setting are appropriately accessing the curriculum. This work requires taking the lead on inter-department meetings, attending and leading professional development, and being the liaison between SFUSD and the curriculum companies.

Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple responsibilities, and successfully create strong working relationships are a priority.

Responsibilities

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the Supervisor, you will:

  • Support the implementation, fidelity, and progress monitoring of Special Education Curriculum for students PK-ACCESS.
  • Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction to ensure special education compliance and access to curriculum for all students
  • Provide and/or coordinate professional development related to curriculum
  • Attend IEPs as needed as a content expert related to curriculum and instruction
  • Be a liaison between SFUSD and curriculum companies
  • Manage distribution and assignment of curriculum licenses and materials
  • Other duties assigned by the Head of Special Education.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate
  • Possession of a valid Special Education credential and Administrative Services Credential
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
  • Five (5) years of experience teaching special education in schools serving underserved students
  • Experience coaching and designing/facilitating professional development opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative teams that include parents/families and professionals;
  • Technologically literate; knowledge of SEIS, CALPADs, Synergy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using multimedia technologies for classroom and professional development applications
  • Knowledge of San Francisco's public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD's commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
  • Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Administrative Services Credential
  • One (1) year of school site or central office administrator experience, school site experience preferred
