A fast-growing, institutionally backed data center infrastructure platform is building a multi-gigawatt portfolio of powered land and digital infrastructure across the United States. Backed by significant committed capital and an active development pipeline, the company is deploying creative, large-scale energy solutions to solve one of the industry's most pressing challenges: securing reliable, contracted power for hyperscale data center projects.
The Vice President of Power Origination will be a foundational executive hire responsible for architecting and executing complex energy and capacity strategies across a national portfolio. This individual will lead highly strategic negotiations, develop innovative power solutions, and play a critical role in enabling large-scale project delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Architect and execute capacity and energy procurement strategies for individual projects and the broader portfolio.
- Evaluate and deploy the optimal mix of utility service, on-site generation, battery storage, demand response, power purchase agreements (PPAs), energy services agreements (ESAs), and other power procurement pathways.
- Lead utility applications and manage complex interconnection, transmission, and regulatory processes through utilities and ISO/RTO organizations.
- Structure and negotiate PPAs, ESAs, capacity agreements, facilities upgrade agreements, and other commercial energy contracts.
- Develop and execute strategies involving behind-the-meter generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy assets, and demand-response programs.
- Facilitate partnerships with third-party generators and infrastructure providers to deliver dedicated capacity solutions.
- Design and manage energy and capacity procurement processes, including RFP development and execution.
- Serve as the primary interface with hyperscale customers, aligning energy delivery solutions with operational, sustainability, and commercial requirements.
- Coordinate closely with acquisitions, development, engineering, procurement, legal, and external advisory teams.
- Develop portfolio-level energy strategy across multiple projects, balancing customer commitments, development timelines, and market dynamics.
- Build and lead a high-performing power origination and commercial execution team.
- Establish institutional best practices and scalable processes that enhance future project execution.
- 10+ years of experience in power markets, energy infrastructure, utilities, renewables development, hyperscale energy strategy, or related sectors.
- Proven track record structuring and closing complex energy, capacity, and infrastructure transactions.
- Strong understanding of utility tariffs, large-load interconnection, transmission planning, facilities upgrades, and ISO/RTO market structures.
- Experience negotiating PPAs, ESAs, capacity agreements, and other energy-related commercial contracts.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following:
- Behind-the-meter gas generation
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Demand-response programs
- Curtailable load structures
- Renewable energy procurement
- Bilateral energy and capacity contracting
- Ability to engage effectively with utilities, regulators, infrastructure investors, generators, customers, and other key stakeholders.
- Strong commercial instincts with the ability to create solutions where no standard framework exists.
- Executive presence and exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable operating in a lean, entrepreneurial, high-growth environment with significant ownership and accountability.
