Systems Engineer, Wireless / 5G, Electronics Engineer
Summary
At Apple, we work every single day to craft products that enrich people’s lives. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? As a member of our Wireless Silicon Design group, you will have an outstanding opportunity to build future products that delight and encourage millions of Apple’s customers every single day. Our wireless SOC organization is responsible for all aspects of wireless silicon development, from sophisticated usages to fast‑paced performance and reliability to enable emerging wireless applications and products.
DescriptionIn this technical role, you will be at the center of a silicon design group, with a critical impact on radio architecture, radio system performance, system integration and physical layer algorithms development for innovative wireless communication systems. You will develop system models of RF/analog design, radio chain modeling, coordinated radio interaction models, multifaceted behavior models and assess associated impairments. You will evaluate radio performance on various application scenarios, architect calibration and correction methods for radio impairments, and collaborate with HW digital designers, architects, analog designers, and SW/FW engineers to define and specify the wireless systems.
You will work with digital designers to realize physical and radio compensation algorithms, and with firmware designers to implement these algorithms efficiently. Finally, you will bring up, test, characterize, tune, and optimize real silicon in the lab to production quality.
- Design radio models for the wireless communication system, RF/circuits impairments.
- Design methods/algorithms to alleviate impairments by calibration, pre‑compensation, cancellation, and/or pre‑distortion techniques.
- Evaluate radio performance in different scenarios by quantitative analysis and link simulation.
- Work with radio designers to develop state‑of‑the‑art radio architecture.
- Collaborate with digital designers to realize PHY/radio algorithms with power‑and‑area efficient digital implementations.
- Join forces with firmware designers to implement calibration with high‑efficiency software implementation together with hardware acceleration.
- BSEE with 3+ years of relevant experience required.
- Understanding of RF and analog components/modules of wireless communication systems, the possible impairments, and corresponding calibration and impairment reduction methods/algorithms.
- Proven track record of RF calibration algorithm for RF impairments.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
- Hands‑on experience on lab testing & characterization, such as spectrum analyzer, signal generator, signal analyzer, power meter, etc.
- MSEE/PhD with relevant experience.
- Understanding of communication theory, information theory, and signal processing related algorithms design.
- Analytical capability to develop outstanding solutions in terms of performance, power and area for meaningful physical layer design issues.
- Knowledge of existing wireless communication protocols:
Cellular technologies (5G‑ prior), WiFi (802.11) or Bluetooth/BLE. - Circuit design experience or knowledge.
