POSITION: Sr. Interconnection Project Engineer (full time, exempt)

GROUP OVERVIEW: The Grid Integration group is responsible for siting and interconnecting the AES Clean Energy portfolio to transmission systems across the United States. The group comprises Transmission Strategy, Interconnection, High Voltage Engineering, and a Generation Modelling and Technical Compliance team.

• Strategic analysis of interconnection procedures, queue, and transmission systems in a given RTO/ISO to formulate and steer greenfield project siting; prepare and manage interconnection requests through to an Interconnection Agreement on favorable terms. Support the Interconnection (IC) Regional Lead in progressing projects and work cross-functionally with the broader Development Team to optimize positions across the development lifecycle.
• Lead and support the review and management of interconnection study processes, including PS/E and PSLF models when applicable; monitor progress and track results; negotiate and execute interconnection agreements and related engineering and procurement agreements.
• Lead and assist in the implementation of portfolio projects, coordinating with internal groups to meet transmission owner deliverables and align project construction schedules.
• Support and lead project due diligence to identify red flags for project acquisitions.

• In-depth knowledge of reviewing interconnection studies and familiarity with power flow models; experience running study models is a plus.
• Strong ability to analyze power flow and system impact studies for interconnection of utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects.
• In-depth knowledge of System Impact Studies (SIS) and other interconnection studies for renewable facilities in the respective region.
• Experience with electrical diagrams, preliminary site plans, and preparation of interconnection request packages for submittal.
• Aware of transmission systems and expansion plans in the US; strong knowledge of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures.

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of work history in renewable or traditional energy development, utility generation development, or transmission planning. Prior experience at an Electric Utility or consultants in those footprints is strongly preferred.
