Position Summary
The Field Application Engineer III role will provide local technical support to a key customer's manufacturing/engineering sites and their use of Parker Lord chemical adhesives, coatings and materials. Will be the lead technical contact for a priority customer with greater than $120M of product usage. The position will require significant travel to the customer's engineering and manufacturing site in the Bay Area as well as supporting other customer sites within the US and international manufacturing locations as needed.
Additionally, the role will serve to support and provide guidance to the Application Engineers supporting this same customer in other US and International locations as well as providing Application Engineering support for other opportunities/customers in the West Coast of the United States and Western Canada Territories as needed.
This position requires significant drive, independence and communication due to it being a field assignment. The role operates under limited direction while conceiving, organizing, promoting, and executing ideas and plans to increase the organization's value to customers while meeting division business objectives. After-hours support of the customer is expected. Work experience in a manufacturing environment and with customer engagement, mechanical equipment, or chemical adhesive products are beneficial.
This position will be located in the San Jose, CA area.
Responsibilities- Daily interfacing with customer engineering, operators, and staff. Remote interfacing with Parker Lord manufacturing, technology, and business staff.
- Lead all Technical related communications with customer including new product applications, managing LSR work/data, etc. Responsible to interact with and utilize other technical teams at Parker Lord and utilize them accordingly.
- Provide routine and non-routine product application and troubleshooting support in a customer manufacturing environment. Tasks will be of moderate to high complexity and variety; frequently make decisions independently.
- On call 24/7 for customer support of Parker Lord products in production at customer site and prototype trials
- Support New Product Commercialization through extended external trials, manage technical interface during startup of major project thrusts.
- Travel up to 50% within the US, with possible international trips.
- Frequent verbal and written reports for Parker Lord internal use and external customer use.
- Conduct chemical product and application training for customer, Parker Lord, and external sales staff.
- Provide strategic technical leadership by identifying new areas of technical and business opportunity
- Proactively lead activities that provide general support to the department, company, or technology.
- Actively seek out and collaborate with industry organizations or technology firms to broaden technical knowledge and market/competitive information.
- Promote safety and may lead in the development of new safety initiatives.
Competencies and
Qualifications:
- Must possess strong safety awareness with adherence to company quality standards; adherence to ISO 9001 quality standards and ethics policies.
- Possess strong attention to detail.
- Possess adequate visual acuity to read and understand chemical container labels and to safely work in a chemical laboratory with hazardous chemicals.
- Proven experience with hands-on lab testing and test methods related to structural adhesives and thermal management materials.
- Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to apply basic statistics and interpret and communicate results.
- Ability to utilize computerized equipment and computer software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, and SAP.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Education and
Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering with 5-7 years of experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment and/or an adhesives test lab environment preferred.
