Who are we looking for?

GHD is offering a part‑time, as‑needed Construction Inspector role based out of one of our offices in Santa Rosa, San Francisco, Concord, or Roseville, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Represent GHD as the on‑site primary liaison between the construction manager, owner, and contractor throughout the construction of the project.
  • Provide on‑site observation of construction activities, including reviewing materials and installation against contract documents and approved submittals for civil, piping, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Document activities with written daily reports and photographs.
  • Contribute to weekly coordination meetings with the contractor, owner, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee third‑party materials testing, including soils and concrete.
  • Lead the observation and reporting of site non‑compliances to ensure excellent site safety and quality management.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other multi‑discipline project teams, clients, and external bodies.
  • Provide operational support services and occasionally act as a first‑line supervisor of an area of a construction project, using existing systems and protocols.
  • Follow the organization’s health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well‑being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Assign short‑term work schedules to a team of subordinates to achieve expectations.
  • Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve performance; monitor the performance of the team, allocate work and review completion, take appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contribute to formal individual performance management and appraisal.
  • Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills.
  • Identify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization’s policies and relevant regulatory codes and reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes, implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives, and monitor effectiveness.
Education
  • High school diploma with 1–3 years of industry experience in inspection.
Experience
  • Proven experience in delivering infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely.
  • The motivation to work independently, a dedication to project success, and a team approach to solving challenges.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel; ability to use technology efficiently for communication, documentation, and record‑keeping.
  • Proven understanding of industry standards and applicable codes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the flexibility to deal with changing priorities.
Salary

Salary Range: $33.00–$50.00 per hour based on experience. Prevailing wages may apply where applicable.
