OVERVIEW

The Judicial Council of California is accepting applications for the position of Engineering Specialist with the Facilities Services office. The Engineering Specialist is a subject matter expert in electrical systems of building facilities. Working closely with project managers, architects and engineers, and facility management administrators, the incumbent will have broad knowledge and experience in electrical systems. Incumbent will review and advise on multiple new ground-up construction capital projects and facility modifications and act as a resource for providing technical assistance on projects during design and construction.

The incumbent will support the Architecture and Engineering team in cross-disciplinary work.

As a government body charged with improving the statewide administration of justice, the Judicial Council has multiple offices with diverse responsibilities relating to court policy and operations.

The Judicial Council offers hybrid work arrangements for many positions. The successful candidate will be expected to work in person at the Judicial Council’s San Francisco or Sacramento office at least two days per week, based on their office leader’s direction, and reside in the areas surrounding these locations. To be eligible for Judicial Council employment and participation in the Judicial Council’s Hybrid Work Program, a prospective or current employee’s primary residence/remote work location must be in the State of California and within a 150-mile driving radius of their assigned reporting location.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implements electrical system codes, standards and guidelines.
  • Implements effective protocols and procedures for compliance to the JCC’s California Trial Court Facilities Standards for electrical systems.
  • Provides review of contracted design of electrical systems for multiple capital projects and facility modifications.
  • Advises project managers on technical aspects of electrical systems in capital or facility modification projects.
  • Reviews engineering designs and construction documentation.
  • Assists in contract management and administration.
  • Assists in drafting technical scope-of-work descriptions for RFQs/RFPs related to electrical work.
  • Under the guidance of A&E Supervisor, supports the Architecture and Engineering team in cross-disciplinary work.
  • Provides support for setting up and tracking Bluebeam sessions and maintains records of comments and responses for project reviews.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a directly related field that would provide the knowledge and skills necessary for technical facility and construction engineering. An additional four (4) years of professional experience as noted above may substitute for the bachelor’s degree. Or, additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
