Role Description

Under the direction of the Airfield Program Manager, the Project Manager II will oversee all phases of projects from programming and design through construction and close‑out, maintaining schedule and budget control, communicating Airport requirements, coordinating stakeholder involvement, and reporting status and issues to Airport Management.

Essential Functions and Duties
  • Plan, organize, and deliver complex airport engineering projects from planning and design through construction and close‑out.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, funding, and change control to meet Airport and FAA requirements.
  • Define and document project purpose, objectives, and technical requirements with SFO Operations and Maintenance.
  • Assess existing airfield pavement, lighting, and infrastructure conditions and evaluate feasible improvement alternatives.
  • Provide technical oversight and leadership to consultants, designers, contractors, and multidisciplinary internal teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and external partners.
  • Coordinate environmental review, permitting, and regulatory approvals as required for project delivery.
  • Identify construction impacts and develop mitigation strategies to minimize operational and airfield disruptions.
  • Oversee development of construction documents, procurement, bidding, and contract award activities.
  • Monitor project performance and report status, risks, issues, and progress to Airport Management.
  • Perform other functions outlined in the 5504 Project Manager II job classification.
Applicable Projects/Programs
  • Midfield Taxiways Improvement Project – Rehabilitation of pavement, lighting, and drainage at the intersection of Taxiways A, B, E, and F.
  • Runway 1R‑19L Rehabilitation & Taxiway W Project – Rehabilitation of Runway 1R‑19L, associated taxiways, pavement repairs, lighting/signal upgrades, construction of Taxiway W, removal of Taxiway F1, and EMAS safety area repairs.
  • Taxiways A and B Rehabilitation, Phase 2 Project – Rehabilitation of selected sections of Taxiways A and B near Terminals 1 and 3.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, or planning and four (4) years of responsible professional experience in architecture, engineering, or construction management plus two (2) years of additional project coordination experience; or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in another field and six (6) years of responsible professional experience in a field directly related to the project plus two (2) years of additional project coordination experience; or
  • Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project plus two (2) years of additional project coordination experience; or
  • California registration as a professional engineer or architect plus two (2) years of project coordination experience.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in airfield planning, design, and construction, including operational requirements and aviation standards.
