Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based in the following offices:
Irvine & San Diego, CA;
Miami & Tampa, FL;
Raleigh, NC;
Houston, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for engineering tasks including data collection, analysis of site and survey data, technical reports, and drawings.
  • Lead development of construction plans, schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare site safety plans and coordinate field work.
  • Manage cross‑functional teams on mid‑level or multiple small projects; track budgets, milestones, and deliver PS&E submissions.
  • Write technical reports with sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, drawings, and engineering software (SAP
    2000 and similar FEM tools).
  • Lead staff engineers in applying higher‑order techniques, incorporating marine‑practice standards, and identifying risks with mitigation solutions.
  • Provide high‑level technical assistance on design tasks, including finite element models for fixed and floating marine structures, and structural components for deep foundations.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets, staffing, and schedules.
  • Prepare and give presentations to internal, external teams, and clients.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Complete all assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program;
    Registered Professional Engineer licensure (multi‑state preferred).
  • 7–10 years of relevant engineering experience with marine project‑specific design, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Proficiency in analysis and design using SAP
    2000 or equivalent FEM software; design and detailing per ACI, AISC, PCI, and/or AASHTO.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and other BIM tools.
  • Knowledge of construction in ports and marine projects.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary team coordination and compiling design and construction documents.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical report writing skills.
  • Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required; ability to work schedules that extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program with 10+ years of post‑education design experience.
  • Proficiency with domestic and international marine terminal codes (MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC, etc.) and DoD criteria.
  • Experience with LSDYNA or related engineering software.
  • Active membership or participation in professional practice organizations.
  • Knowledge of marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Field investigation and construction support experience for port and marine structures.
  • Possession of a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) is an added advantage.

Compensation

Expected salary: $90,000–$140,000 (all locations). WSP USA reserves the right to offer more or less than the posted range based on qualifications and location.
