We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Project Engineer to support a major structural bridge rehabilitation and retrofit project involving complex phased construction, steel and concrete rehabilitation, traffic maintenance, and coordination with public agencies and subcontractors.

This position is ideal for a construction professional with strong technical expertise in bridge structures, field operations, scheduling, and project coordination who thrives in a fast-paced heavy civil environment.

Position Summary

The Senior Project Engineer will play a critical leadership role supporting project management and field operations on a large-scale bridge retrofit project. This individual will oversee engineering coordination, subcontractor management, document control, scheduling support, quality assurance, and technical execution throughout all phases of construction.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in structural bridge rehabilitation, including steel repairs, concrete restoration, staged construction, temporary works, and coordination with DOT agencies, consultants, and inspection teams.

Key Responsibilities Project Engineering & Technical Coordination
  • Lead day-to-day engineering support for bridge rehabilitation and retrofit operations
  • Review and coordinate design drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings
  • Interface with owners, design consultants, inspectors, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues
  • Assist with constructability reviews and development of construction sequencing plans
  • Support temporary works engineering coordination including shielding, access systems, falsework, and traffic staging
  • Ensure all work complies with contract documents, engineering standards, and applicable DOT requirements
Construction Operations Support
  • Coordinate field activities between superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and project management teams
  • Monitor daily production activities and support implementation of recovery plans when necessary
  • Assist with procurement tracking and material deliveries
  • Participate in look-ahead planning meetings and scheduling updates
  • Support bridge closure sequencing, maintenance of traffic (MOT), and phased construction activities
  • Track and manage quantities, installed work, and progress reporting
Cost Control & Scheduling
  • Support cost tracking, forecasting, and budget management
  • Assist project managers with change orders, time impact analyses, and claims documentation
  • Review subcontractor invoices and support progress billing efforts
  • Coordinate with scheduling teams to maintain and update CPM schedules
  • Monitor productivity and identify risks impacting schedule or budget
Quality & Safety
  • Support implementation of project quality control programs
  • Coordinate inspections, testing activities, and documentation requirements
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with safety standards and project-specific safety plans
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all field operations
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate project records including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and as-built documentation
  • Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and engineering analyses
  • Assist with closeout documentation and turnover packages
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • 6+ years of heavy civil construction experience with significant bridge rehabilitation or structural retrofit exposure preferred
  • Strong understanding of structural steel, reinforced concrete, bridge staging, and temporary support systems preferred
  • Experience working on DOT, transit, or public infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of CPM scheduling and project controls
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Proficiency with:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Procore or similar construction management platforms
