Your OpportunityUse your engineering, client‑service, and project‑management skills to design HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and other mechanical systems for healthcare facilities while leading teams, fostering collaboration, and contributing to Stantec’s reputation as a top‑tier design firm.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Contribute to planning, execution, and delivery of healthcare projects to meet time, scope, and budget goals.
- Design mechanical systems for healthcare facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas.
- Collaborate with project leaders, architects, partners, and stakeholders to define objectives and develop innovative solutions.
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, guiding design principles and best practices.
- Implement risk‑management strategies to identify and mitigate potential challenges.
- Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure mechanical‑design best practices.
- Analyze project outcomes and implement continuous‑improvement practices.
- Build relationships with healthcare providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders for design alignment.
- Engage with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and integration.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to validate project requirements.
- Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to develop reliable design solutions.
- Prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare design standards and regulations.
- Participate in and lead project meetings, communicating effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the overall technical growth of the mechanical team.
- Manage production resources and workflow for design documentation, drawings, and calculations.
- Delegate work to support staff and nurture client relationships.
- Develop project proposals and pursue new business opportunities.
- Continuously develop knowledge in related disciplines through training.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and disseminate knowledge to staff.
- Build industry relationships and visibility with clients, sub‑consultants, and partner firms.
- Experience designing within the healthcare sector.
- Track record of leading complex healthcare projects with measurable outcomes.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including California building codes, OSHPD regulations, IMC, IPC, NFPA, IBC, ASHRAE, LEED, and green‑building requirements.
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Fundamental understanding of NFPA
99, ASHRAE
170, and FGI guidelines for hospitals, surgical centers, and medical offices. - Ability to develop concepts and evolve them into deliverables.
- Proficiency in producing project documents and adhering to documentation standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and public‑speaking skills.
- Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience identifying and managing project risks and unanticipated scope.
- Proficiency in problem‑solving and analytical thinking.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Passion for mentoring engineering talent and driving innovation.
- Proficiency with BIM software Revit.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
- Valid driver’s licence with a good driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Minimum 6years of relevant experience in healthcare project design (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Professional Engineering license strongly preferred.
- 6years of OSHPD experience preferred.
- Experience with Lean Construction and IPD projects is a plus.
- Knowledge of guidelines for leading healthcare clients (e.g., Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, UCDavis) is a plus.
