Position OverviewWe are seeking a mid-to-senior level design engineer with 6+ years of experience to support our San Francisco office. This role supports our Water Resilience practice on planning and design projects integrating sustainable water management, onsite water reuse, resilient design, and green stormwater infrastructure. Candidates should have a strong technical understanding of the site development process and the ability to lead design efforts and support project management activities.
Additionally, candidates should have a good understanding of hydrology and water resource analysis, a strong interest in improving these skills through work on site development projects of various scales that include forward‑thinking water management strategies. Experience working on multidisciplinary design teams (landscape architects, architects, urban designers, planners) is preferred. This role collaborates closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary BKF teams to deliver high‑quality water infrastructure solutions while mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities- Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of water infrastructure projects.
- Support project management activities, including scope development, schedules, budgets, coordination with internal teams, and technical deliverables.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, and specifications.
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, and stakeholders, including support of permitting processes and regulatory approvals.
- Apply BKF standards and best practices to ensure quality, consistency, and innovation in project delivery.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers; collaborate across BKF service lines and disciplines to support integrated project delivery.
- Assist with proposal support and technical input for water resources and stormwater pursuits as needed.
- 6+ years working on site development projects.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- EIT required;
California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred. - Strong interpersonal skills essential within our client‑focused environment.
- Strong initiative and technical problem‑solving expertise.
Must be able to regularly talk, hear, and operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Occasionally lift, pull, push, and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work ConditionsExposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high‑stress, fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
Benefits- The typical base salary range for this position is $127,015 – $155,241, annualized depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
