Overview

Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, seeks an Energy Team Lead for our Building Science Group in San Francisco, CA. This role leads high‑impact energy consulting work advancing sustainable design and decarbonization goals across new developments, existing buildings, campuses, and portfolios.

Position Summary

The Energy Team Lead is a leadership role within Glumac’s energy team that supports the delivery of energy and sustainability planning projects. The position focuses on net‑zero energy, carbon neutrality, and energy resilience strategies, providing technical expertise in energy modeling, electrification, renewable energy systems, and decarbonization planning.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manage and oversee energy consulting projects, including energy modeling, audits, retro‑commissioning, electrification feasibility studies, and decarbonization planning.
  • Provide technical consulting to clients and internal teams on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and resiliency strategies.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive plans to support net‑zero energy, carbon neutrality, and energy resilience goals for buildings, campuses, and portfolios.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, providing guidance, technical review, and QA/QC of energy models and project deliverables.
  • Improve internal project delivery workflows, contribute to knowledge management, and support firm‑wide training initiatives.
  • Manage the financial performance of energy projects and programs.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business and long‑term partnerships.
  • Lead sales activities for energy services throughout California, including client relationships and proposals.
  • Support external business development with conference presentations, client meetings, industry events, and thought leadership pieces.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Building Sciences, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in sustainable building design or the energy sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in MEP systems, sustainable building design, electrified heating technologies, renewable energy, microgrid systems, and energy codes and standards.
  • Deep understanding of California Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards.
  • Advanced experience with building energy modeling software such as IES‑VE and CBECC.
  • Experience managing energy modeling, audit, or retro‑commissioning projects involving large teams and diverse clients.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and communicate technical findings clearly and effectively.
  • Experience with business development, responding to RFPs, and writing proposals.
  • Experience mentoring and directly supervising junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience directly supervising and managing a team of energy analysts, consultants, and engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain long‑term client relationships, identify and pursue new opportunities, and expand service offerings.
  • Experience delivering building decarbonization plans for buildings, campuses, and portfolios.
  • Experience delivering retro‑commissioning (RCx) and monitoring‑based commissioning (MBCx) utilizing automated fault detection and diagnostics (FDD).
  • Experience with data analytics, dashboarding, and programming tools such as Python, R, and SQL.
  • Experience with parametric modeling tools such as Grasshopper, Honeybee, Ladybug, etc.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or equivalent certification.
Work Environment and Location

This position offers a hybrid work environment requiring two in‑office days per week at our Los Angeles, CA office. Candidates must be located in and eligible to work in the U.S.

Compensation

Salary Range: $135,000 – $170,000 (depending on experience). Compensation includes the base salary, benefits, professional development opportunities, and additional incentives.
