Job Location

This position is available at any location in the United States. The preferred location is near a Jacobs U.S. office.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design voice and data systems, including detailed architectural schematics and network diagrams. Perform technical calculations and prepare deliverables such as specifications, reports, and procedures.
  • Develop detailed telecom infrastructure designs, including structured cabling (fiber/copper), high-speed network circuits, and rack layouts.
  • Create technical specifications and review technical documents.
  • Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
  • Create Bill of Materials from design drawings and specifications.
  • Work with BIM designers to prepare telecommunications design packages.
  • Prepare technical requisitions for hardware, software, and cabling. Conduct technical evaluations of vendor bids, review vendor documentation, and oversee FATs and SATs.
  • Partner with supply chain teams to evaluate and select vendors for mission‑critical hardware and cabling.
  • Coordinate equipment purchasing, shipping, and inventory management for large‑scale deployments.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure materials meet quality and code standards.
  • Provide technical support to construction teams, resolve field change requests, and work with APMs to manage subcontractors.
  • Oversee on‑site installation activities, including fiber splicing, rack‑and‑stack, and network circuit turn‑ups.
  • Track project milestones, manage change orders, and conduct site inspections to ensure “right first time” execution.
  • Support commissioning and testing to verify system readiness before operational handover.
  • Interface with construction PMs, design PMs, vendors, clients and other engineering disciplines to ensure system consistency.
Technical Proficiency
  • Expertise in fiber optics, IP‑based systems, wireless technology, and Cisco IOS/XR or Junos operating systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as BICSI, ANSI/TIA, and NEC.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam.
  • Experience in optical transport systems (10G‑100G).
  • Ability to read and interpret testing results for different telecommunications technologies.
Professional Skills
  • Problem‑solving ability to diagnose complex network issues and develop disaster recovery plans.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising between vendors, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Familiarity with responding to RFPs.
  • Experience providing QA and checking of telecommunications systems designed by others.
  • Experience with start‑up and commissioning of telecom systems.
  • Experience creating a budget for a project.
  • Experience creating and maintaining a project schedule.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating company risk.
Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or computer science from an ABET‑accredited institution.

Experience

6 – 8 years of experience working on EPC projects or a combination of experience working for an MEP design firm and installation contractor.

Location & Travel

This position will require at least 25% travel.

Certifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer).
