Stationary Engineer, Sewage Plant (TPV 7372) (SFO) (160266)
Type of Appointment: Provisional (TPV) – must complete Civil Service Examination and may not exceed 3 years.
Salary Range: $
Responsibilities- Makes regular visual, audio, olfactory and tactile inspections of all plant machinery and equipment, maintains logs and records.
- Performs manual tasks handling raw sewage, collects and assesses raw sewage and chemical samples to ensure treatment efficiency and NPDES compliance.
- Operates, inspects, maintains, overhauls, and repairs pumping, heating, ventilating, process machinery and equipment, including pumps, conveyors, chlorinators, evaporators, storage tanks, sludge collectors, drive units, deodorizing equipment, and metering devices.
- Inspects sewage pipelines, tanks, and gates for condition, infiltration, blockage, and mineral deposits, draining tanks, monitoring pressure, and visual inspection.
- Operates and maintains solids treatment and flocculating chemical systems, monitoring and adjusting flow indicators, visual inspection, and sample analysis.
- Operates and maintains disinfection and dechlorination systems, performing tests and analyzing samples for proper chemical dosages.
- Assists in training and supervising apprentices or trainees in operation and maintenance of sewage treatment processes.
- Performs duties listed in the 7372 Stationary Engineer, Sewage Plant class specification.
- Four (4) years of verifiable journey‑level experience as a Stationary Engineer, Plant Operator or Plant Mechanic in a wastewater treatment plant, government establishment, hospital, or industrial/commercial building.
- Or completion of a recognized four‑year Stationary Engineer Apprenticeship Program.
- Or graduation from a recognized four‑year Maritime Academy with a degree in Engineering or Technology.
- Or possession of a 3rd Assistant Marine Engineer's License of any unrestricted horsepower.
- Or possession of an FAA Airframe or Power Plant Certificate and four (4) years of verifiable experience as an Airframe or Powerplant mechanic/maintenance technician.
- Valid driver's license.
- Grade I or higher California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate or Grade I or higher California Water Environment Mechanical Technology Certificate.
- Grade II or higher California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate.
- California Advanced Water Treatment Operator Certificate (AWTO).
- Experience working in a wastewater treatment plant.
- Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
