Job Description
Under general direction, the Administrative Engineer performs technical, administrative and supervisory engineering work in support of a wide range of capital improvement projects, engineering programs and project delivery within the Engineering division at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The position supports the successful delivery of design and construction projects, focusing on design management, technical review, drawing and specification development, quality assurance/quality control, cost and schedule management, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
The role also supervises and mentors engineering staff, providing technical leadership and establishing consistent procedures, expectations and best practices for project delivery.
- Review and support the delivery of engineering projects from planning and design through construction and closeout.
- Lead, prepare, review, and coordinate engineering drawings, technical specifications, reports, design criteria, cost estimates, schedules, and other project deliverables.
- Perform technical design, interdisciplinary coordination, constructability, code compliance, and quality assurance/quality control reviews of engineering plans and specifications.
- Interpret and apply applicable engineering codes, regulations, airport standards, policies, procedures, and industry best practices across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Administer, update, and support implementation of the airport’s Architectural and Engineering Standards.
- Develop, implement, and improve engineering procedures, design review processes, QA/QC practices, templates, checklists, and project delivery tools.
- Supervise, direct, assign, and review the work of engineering staff, technical personnel, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance, leadership, and professional development support to engineering staff.
- Prepare technical and administrative reports, recommendations, presentations, budget documents, and other written materials related to engineering projects.
- Participate in the preparation, review, and management of project budgets, consultant scopes, contract documents, procurement materials, cost estimates, and funding requirements.
- Evaluate design alternatives, perform value engineering, review market and cost trends, and recommend solutions that improve cost effectiveness, constructability, maintainability, sustainability, reliability, and operational performance.
- Perform other functions as outlined in the Administrative Engineer classification.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the major fields of engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university. - Experience:
Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative, design, planning, and construction of engineering projects, including at least two (2) years of responsible supervisory and administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. - Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
- Certification as a Professional Engineer in California (civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical (environmental/sanitary), or transportation).
- Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit for developing, reviewing, coordinating, and managing engineering drawings, design models, and construction documents.
