This individual will play a critical role in developing and scaling a global supply base that supports advanced battery manufacturing operations. This individual will lead supplier qualification, industrialization, and performance improvement initiatives across raw materials, cell components, and manufacturing partners.
This role is ideal for an engineer with strong experience in battery manufacturing, supplier quality, process development, and production scale-up within advanced manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities- Lead technical selection, qualification, and development of suppliers supporting advanced manufacturing operations
- Drive supplier industrialization from initial assessment through qualification and production ramp
- Evaluate supplier processes, capacity, quality systems, and scalability to identify risks and improvement opportunities
- Partner with suppliers to improve process capability, yield, manufacturability, and product quality
- Develop and approve quality planning deliverables, including PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, PPAP, and process validation activities
- Conduct supplier audits focused on technical capability, manufacturing readiness, and quality performance
- Lead root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain teams to support NPI and production milestones
- Serve as the primary technical interface between suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in Supplier Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, or Industrialization within battery, materials, or advanced manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting products from NPI through qualification, ramp-up, and volume production
- Strong understanding of battery cell manufacturing processes, battery materials, or related component technologies
- Working knowledge of PFMEA, SPC, MSA/GR&R, DOE, Control Plans, Cpk, and structured problem-solving methodologies
- Experience conducting supplier audits against standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and/or AS9100
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments preferred - Familiarity with battery failure analysis, testing, and metrology techniques is a plus
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally (30-40%)
