Associate Principal / Senior Electrical Engineer, MEP Compensation: up to 180K, plus potential performance bonus Position Overview
A nationally recognized, 100% employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking an Associate Principal or Senior Electrical Engineer to join its San Francisco team.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who can lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex building projects, develop strong client relationships, and provide technical direction throughout the design and construction process.
The position offers a hybrid schedule requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of major projects while continuing to build a long-term leadership path within an employee-owned organization.

- Lead the electrical design and delivery of complex MEP projects
- Manage projects across healthcare, life science, biotechnology, commercial, education, transportation, and institutional markets
- Develop innovative electrical power, lighting, emergency power, and building infrastructure solutions
- Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, technical quality, and resource allocation
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, architects, contractors, and project partners
- Lead client meetings, technical presentations, and project coordination efforts
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and design staff
- Support project managers and multidisciplinary team leaders throughout project delivery
- Review drawings, specifications, calculations, submittals, and construction documents
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, electrical codes, healthcare requirements, and industry standards
- Participate in business development, proposal preparation, client retention, and relationship management
- Help identify and develop emerging technical and leadership talent within the firm
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- At least 10 years of electrical engineering experience within an MEP consulting or building systems environment
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing design staff
- Healthcare facility design experience
- Working knowledge of California HCAI requirements and healthcare building compliance
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical building systems and applicable codes
- Experience managing complex projects from concept design through construction administration
- Strong client service, presentation, and relationship management capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to balance technical leadership, project execution, team development, and client expectations
- California Professional Engineer license or equivalent senior-level experience
- Project Management Professional certification
- LEED accreditation
- Experience using Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience with life science, biotechnology, laboratory, higher education, transportation, or commercial facilities
- Previous experience supporting business development and client account growth
The anticipated salary range for this position is up to 180K per year
, depending on experience, technical qualifications, leadership capabilities, and professional credentials. The role may also be eligible for a performance-based bonus.
