The Opportunity
Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, is expanding its plumbing engineering group in California and is seeking an experienced Plumbing Engineer/Designer who is passionate about sustainable design and ready to take a lead role on diverse projects. Projects include healthcare, commercial, multifamily, and educational buildings. Short-term responsibilities involve leading plumbing designs and supporting construction administration; long-term career growth includes building and leading a regional plumbing practice and shaping standards and workflows within the group.
PositionSummary
The Senior Plumbing Engineer/Designer will lead plumbing and process piping consulting and design efforts from Schematic Design through Construction Administration. Responsibilities include plumbing system calculations, technical design deliverables, coordination with other disciplines, QA/QC compliance, and mentoring junior staff. The role requires regular collaboration with internal and external project teams and site visits for field observation and investigation. The ideal candidate is self‑directed, solution‑oriented, with strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to sustainable practices.
EssentialJob Functions
- Lead plumbing piping designs and prepare construction documents.
- Perform fixture counts, pipe/equipment sizing, and other plumbing calculations.
- Coordinate with ownership, mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural teams.
- Support Construction Administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and field reports.
- Adhere to QA/QC policies and address issues proactively.
- Mentor junior engineers/designer and help grow the local plumbing team.
- Assist with Business Development opportunities when needed.
- 5+ years in consulting, construction, or a related field.
- Valid PE license or CPD certification.
- Proficient in Revit (BIM).
- Strong plumbing design experience in commercial, healthcare, process, multifamily residential, or manufacturing settings.
- Self‑motivated, organized, solution‑oriented, and able to work independently.
- Local to the region (±30 miles of a Glumac office).
- Experience with medical gas or process piping (certifications are a plus).
- LEED, LFA, or sustainability credentials.
- Knowledge of water treatment devices (softeners, descalers, interceptors).
- Fire‑protection knowledge (wet/dry systems, dry‑agent suppression).
- Project‑management, business‑development, or prior team‑leadership experience.
This position offers a hybrid work environment, requiring two in‑office days per week at one of our Sacramento, San Francisco, or San Diego offices. All candidates must be located in the U.S. and legally eligible to work here.
CompensationSalary Range: $100,000 – $135,000 (dependent on experience). The base salary will be set based on location, responsibilities, and qualifications. This is just one component of Glumac’s total compensation package, which includes benefits, professional development opportunities, and additional incentives.
