Job Description & How to Apply Below

Lead Hardware Production & Systems Integration Engineer

This human owns the industrialization of the Island Mountain hardware platform.

Core responsibilities
  • Reference bill of materials and approved component list
  • Alternate vendors for critical components
  • GPU, CPU, storage, networking, chassis, power, and thermal qualification
  • Supplier lead times and component availability
  • Secure firmware and BIOS configuration
  • TPM, secure boot, device identity, and hardware-root-of-trust configuration
  • Air-gapped and restricted-network deployment configurations
  • Assembly instructions and production checklists
  • Automated burn-in, performance, thermal, and failure testing
  • Serial-number tracking and chain-of-custody records
  • Secure provisioning and customer-specific configuration
  • Packaging, shipping, installation, spares, warranty, and RMA procedures
  • Unit economics and production capacity forecasts
  • Hardware refresh, repairability, and end-of-life planning

Island Mountain’s customer-owned hardware model makes hardware integrity part of the trust proposition. The production process must cover more than assembly. It must address component provenance, firmware, provisioning, delivery, integration, operations, and eventual retirement. NIST’s cybersecurity supply-chain guidance takes this same full-lifecycle view.

First 90-day deliverables
  • A controlled production bill of materials with qualified alternates.
  • A documented Summit Series reference architecture.
  • A repeatable assembly and provisioning process.
  • A production acceptance test with clear pass/fail criteria.
  • At least two independently reproduced systems built from the same documentation.
  • A serialized component and configuration record for every unit.
  • A secure field-update, repair, and replacement procedure.
  • A costed forecast for five, ten, and twenty systems.
  • Measured power draw, thermal performance, acoustics, expected component life, and serviceability.

Power consumption, cooling requirements, component longevity, repairability, and responsible equipment retirement should be treated as production requirements. Large GPU systems can create significant electrical and cooling demands;
Island Mountain should be able to tell a customer exactly what each configuration requires and how the system will be maintained over its useful life.

Candidate profile
  • GPU server integration
  • Edge computing or private-cloud appliances
  • Secure hardware provisioning
  • Data-center systems engineering
  • Original equipment manufacturer or system-integrator operations
  • Firmware and hardware security
  • Production test engineering
  • Early-stage hardware companies
Qualifications
  • Strong hardware engineering background, including experience with server-class components, GPU systems, power delivery, thermal management, and rack-level integration.
  • Systems Design and Systems Engineering skills to architect complete, reliable, and maintainable hardware solutions for on-premises AI workloads.
  • Circuit Design and Analog skills for safe, efficient power systems, signal integrity, and component-level troubleshooting.
  • Experience with production testing, such as burn-in procedures, performance validation, failure analysis, and quality assurance in a small-team environment.
  • Proficiency with system deployment tools, operating system installation, firmware/BIOS configuration, and hardware monitoring utilities.
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, build procedures, test plans, and configuration guides for repeatable manufacturing and support.
  • Comfort working hands-on in a lab or workshop setting, including safe handling of high-power systems, ESD practices, and precise assembly work.
  • Effective communication skills and a customer-focused mindset, with the ability to support clients directly and explain complex technical issues in accessible terms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
