Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Port Engineer role based in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area. The Port Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of assigned vessels, working closely with ship management teams, vendors, and regulatory bodies. Daily tasks include planning and coordinating maintenance activities, troubleshooting technical issues, reviewing inspection reports, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

The role involves monitoring vessel performance, managing dry-dock and repair projects, preparing technical documentation and cost estimates, and supporting crew with engineering-related guidance. The Port Engineer also collaborates with other departments to optimize vessel operations, maintain budgets, and support long-term asset reliability.

Qualifications
  • Strong Maintenance & Repair and Inspection skills, with experience planning, executing, and documenting marine maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of Ship Management and Vessel Operations, including coordination with crews, port authorities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Background in the Marine Industry, with familiarity with maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
  • Relevant technical education such as a degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manufacturer manuals, and classification society requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work on-site with shipboard and shoreside teams.
  • Proficiency with standard office and maintenance management software; experience with CMMS systems is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel to vessels, shipyards, and ports as operational needs require.
