Overview
frog Product Design Engineer (Fixed Term)
At Capgemini Invent, we believe difference drives change. As inventive transformation consultants, we blend strategic, creative, and scientific capabilities to deliver cutting-edge solutions. Join us to drive transformation tailored to client challenges, informed and validated by science and data, superpowered by creativity and design, and underpinned by purpose-built technology.
At frog we are united by a shared passion for outcomes that transform the human experience. We tackle complex challenges and seek to apply design to new strategies, systems, and, in some cases, entirely new businesses, while valuing diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Our work is transformational because our people are extraordinary. We look for hybrid talents and build teams around divergent expertise to solve problems and uncover opportunities in unique ways.
Your RoleThis is an on-site position — located in Boulder, CO
Fixed Term — minimum 6 months contract with the possibility of extension
The PositionMechanical engineers at frog are embedded in the design team to deliver innovative design solutions across a range of products and scales, from consumer products to transportation and city-scale experiences. Responsibilities include brainstorming concepts, building evaluative prototypes, studying emerging technologies, architecting products, creating manufacturing strategies, and ensuring production reflects the design intent while balancing project requirements. Collaboration is central, with frogs, clients, suppliers, and partners;
the team works across disciplines to deliver strong outcomes.
The ideal candidate will embrace the evolution of design to integrate hardware with software and services within a holistic design approach that considers the broader ecosystem.
Role DetailsThis is an on-site role with our client in Boulder, CO. You will be embedded full-time with our client’s softgoods design and engineering teams. You will own the prototyping lifecycle end-to-end: turning early concepts into high-fidelity, production-representative samples, developing the prototyping process and tooling, and partnering with test engineering to verify performance.
This is hands-on work with significant time in the lab and at the CAD workstation; iterations occur on short cycles. If you enjoy applying engineering rigor to materials that bend, stretch, and breathe, this is for you.
The ContributionInnovate
. Solve problems and address challenges, including constraints of softgoods materials.Excel at core engineering tasks
: design, prototyping, analysis, 3D CAD modeling (including Class-A surfaces), and documentation.Analyze product geometry
, develop tooling and fixture concepts and CAD for softgoods components (textiles, silicone, leather, soft polymers).Engineer proof-of-concept prototypes and define prototyping processes for small builds.
Perform First Article Inspection (FAI) and observe tooling setup, feeding learnings back into ongoing process improvements.
Prepare cut/print files for fabrication equipment (e.g., Zund cutter, laser, 3D printer).
Support hands-on fabrication during peak times.
You Are:
Someone who wants to influence their own development and contribute across functions and geographies. Please note the following competencies:
BSME or similar educational background.
6-8 years of experience in product design engineering with consumer electronics, softgoods, or related industries.
Proven ability to lead complex design efforts and deliver results in cross-functional environments.
Strong 3D modeling capabilities (NX preferred), including Class-A surface development.
Product architecture development, including feasibility studies, sizing, technology integration, mechanism design and analysis.
Exceptional prototyping capabilities.
Understanding of manufacturing processes and design constraints, including injection molding, machining, softgoods (textiles, films, synthetics, leather, adhesives) and manufacturing process documentation.
Experience collaborating with vendors on DFM/DFA, tooling and fixture design, and First Article Inspection (FAI).
