Energy Markets Lead

American Terawatt is building a new industrial electric grid for the United States.
Executing successfully means engaging in power development at a national scale. This means understanding market conditions at macro and micro level.

We design and deploy advanced power transmission systems, serving large industrial loads, hundreds of megawatts at a time. Our systems deliver electric power to everything from frontier AI datacenters to highly automated manufacturing, refineries, mines, and more.

We make interconnection fast, simple, and cheap. On our network, generation owners get their projects online faster, delivering abundant power at competitive prices.

The backbone of American Terawatt’s network is high power HVDC transmission, anchored by our unique terminal design. American Terawatt’s HVDC terminals are standardized, modular, and natively integrate energy storage. Each one is designed to expand to operate as a full node on our future HVDC transmission network.

The Role

As Energy Markets Lead at American Terawatt, you will:

  • Build and maintain a market model of the value of American Terawatt transmission development, pulling together data like announced datacenter capacity, generation interconnection and queue filings, industrial development, turbine and genset order flow, transmission queue, permit filings, financing announcements, load forecasts, utility grid congestion, and other signals.

  • Build and maintain a robust system to identify and maintain a portfolio of specific individual opportunities for transmission development, for example by tracking where announced demand outpaces deliverable on-site or co-located generation, and matching it with stranded generation capacity without co-location opportunities. Based on our value proposition and in our target markets:

    • Identify target generation partnership opportunities (greenfield and existing/curtailed) and propose links to data centers, or other large loads in a given radius

    • Identify target large loads, and propose links to stranded generation that accelerate cost and/or schedule

  • Assemble the sizing, siting, and commercial context for each opportunity for evaluation. Contribute to the risk modeling of identified opportunities together with the broader development and engineering teams. Perform desktop preliminary diligence on opportunities and partners with an eye toward feasibility, highlight risks and opportunities, identify tradeoffs, and make recommendations.

  • Model the commercial impact of individual link development as part of our broader network strategy, regionally and nationally. Identify how planned or in-progress links open opportunities to add further nodes or extensions which improve the network’s total value, and reduce interconnection times and power costs for each additional user.

  • Build repeatable processes for gathering and cleaning public and proprietary data including ISO/RTO interconnection queues and forecasts, utility resource plans, OEM order books, and plain old ‘get someone on the phone’.

Experience Required Experience
  • Demonstrated professional experience in energy analysis, energy GTM, or capacity/resource planning for an energy developer, utility, IPP, consultancy, hyperscaler, or similar. Your analysis should have contributed significantly to budgetary decisions.

  • Strong quantitative modeling skills: fluent building and maintaining financial/market models, plus the ability to wrangle messy public and proprietary data programmatically (Python, SQL, or equivalent).

  • Familiarity with US wholesale power markets and the interconnection process — ISO/RTO market design, LMPs and congestion, and the generator interconnection queue (cluster studies, FERC Order 2023).

  • Understanding of utility and ISO/RTO…
