Building Performance Consultant II – Sustainable Design
Affiliated Engineers W, Inc. seeks a Building Performance Consultant II – Sustainable Design in San Francisco, California. Estimated Starting Salary: $134,000 - $139,000 per year. Job requires up to 5% domestic travel.
Responsibilities:
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Uses whole building and component simulation and analysis tools (e.g. Energy Plus, IES-VE, CBECC-Com) to evaluate building system performance.
- Uses effective writing and presentations skills to prepare analysis and consulting reports and presentation materials in PowerPoint, PowerBI, Microsoft Word, or other comparable software.
- Complete building rating system and code compliance documentation required for project certifications and permits.
- Coordinate with project team members in the analysis of systems and system components (10%).
- Uses whole building and component simulation and analysis tools (e.g. Energy Plus, IES-VE) to evaluate thermal comfort, natural ventilation and passive design for capital project and planning engagements.
- Uses whole building and component simulation and analysis tools (e.g. Energy Plus, IES-VE, CBECC-Com) to evaluate architectural design development.
- Uses whole building and component simulation and analysis tools (e.g. Energy Plus, IES-VE, CBECC-Com) to evaluate building system sizing and design.
- Perform economic analysis of building design strategies to support system selection and design optimization and provide quality review of work performed by Building Performance Consultant I staff.
- Perform energy and water related building rating system and code research.
- Interpret and utilize information set forth in basis of design as well as information gathered from users, project partners, field surveys and code research.
- Identifies building system options and design strategies (conventional and non-conventional) for analysis and establishes analysis criteria and methods.
- Effectively presents and reviews system strategies and equipment with project team members, project partners and clients.
- Delegates work, identifies specific tasks, and balances work for Building Performance Consultant I or subject matter expert in order to meet client demands and project deadlines. Reviews work for completeness and accuracy.
- Benchmarks project design, simulated and measured performance data; while also being responsible to review benchmark data provided by Building Performance Consultant I.
- Performs quality review of own work and provides quality review of work performed by Building Performance Consultant I staff.
- Works with Project Manager and senior staff to establish project workplans. Anticipates and meets project deadlines including balancing multiple projects and priorities while responding to changes in deadline, scope, and design as they occur.
- Participates in project meetings as discipline representative; records meeting notes and is responsible for sharing project correspondence and documents with appropriate staff.
Qualifications:
Required:
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Sustainable Design, or a related field plus 2 years of experience using whole building and component simulation and analysis tools to evaluate building system performance, sizing, and design. Alternatively, will accept a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Sustainable Design, or a related field plus 3 years of experience using whole building and component simulation and analysis tools to evaluate building system performance, sizing, and design.
In addition, the following specific experience is also required:
- 2 years of experience in high performance design including renewable and alternative energy strategies, day lighting, embodied energy, indoor environmental quality, material composition, water efficiency, life cycle assessment, and built environment planning.
- 2 years of experience applying understanding of building systems such as HVAC, lighting, instrumentation and controls, and building envelope systems.
- 2 years of experience using IES-VE or Energy Plus building simulation tools for consulting and analysis.
- 2 years of experience in computer operation for building system analysis and engineering calculation programs.
- 2 years of experience with an application programming language such as C++, Ruby, Python, Visual Basic, or Power BI.
- 2 years of experience using California Building Energy Code Compliance software (CBECC-COM).
- 2 years of experience interpreting applicable rating systems, design codes and standards.
