Robotics Engineer, Navigation

San Francisco | On site | $150,000 to $230,000 base

Navigation is easy on a wheeled robot in a mapped warehouse. It is a genuinely open problem on a humanoid in a space nobody surveyed first.

Working with a humanoid robotics company in San Francisco who are hiring a Navigation Engineer to own how their robot understands where it is and how it gets somewhere else, in real environments rather than curated one.

• Building localisation and mapping that holds up on a legged platform
• Working on path planning, footstep planning and navigating around obstacles that move
• Integrating navigation with perception and locomotion so the whole thing behaves as one system
• Getting it running on the robot, in the real world, repeatably
• Reporting directly to the founders with a strong wide team to collaborate with.

• Minimum 1 year of professional experience with navigation or SLAM deployed on physical robots
• Strong Python and C++
• Hands on experience with SLAM, state estimation and sensor fusion
• Comfort with the messy parts: drift, dynamic environments, degraded sensing
• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate. This role is on site
• Must be a US citizen or green card holder. This client is not able to sponsor or transfer visas

Legged navigation in unstructured environments is not a solved problem. You would be working on it rather than reading about it.
