- Support the design, characterization, integration, and validation of Bedrock autonomy hardware and related systems under senior-engineer guidance
- Assist with component evaluations for autonomous hardware platforms
- Write sensor-data analysis and test-automation scripts in Python, C++, C, or Rust
- Run tests, collect data, and clearly document results for the engineering team
- Work alongside senior engineers to help deliver robust autonomous hardware systems to the field
- Contribute to hardware supporting autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field at the University of Waterloo
- Solid foundational knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and embedded software engineering
- Coursework or project experience with embedded compute platforms, autonomous sensing technologies, hardware packaging and integration, and signaling and communication protocols
- Proficiency in one or more of Python, C/C++, or Rust
- Strong fundamentals in circuits, signals, and basic mechanical design
- Comfortable working in a lab environment with a multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator, soldering iron, and related tools
- Legal authorization to work in the United States is addressed in the application
- Ability to commute to the San Francisco office 3–4 days per week
- Preferred: prior co-op terms, personal projects, or club experience in hardware or embedded systems
- Preferred: expertise with camera, lidar, radar, IMU, or GNSS
- Preferred: experience with Nvidia Jetson embedded compute platforms
- Preferred: experience with communication protocols including CAN, UART, SPI, RS232/422/485, and Ethernet
- Preferred: basic PCB design or schematic capture tools such as KiCad, Eagle, Altium, or Cadence
- Preferred: experience with Git and collaborative engineering workflows
- Preferred: familiarity with construction, off-road, or heavy equipment
- Preferred: portfolio of personal or academic hardware projects
Demonstrates strong foundational knowledge in Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics, with proficiency in Python, C/C++, and Rust for sensor-data analysis and test automation. Capable of supporting the design and validation of autonomous hardware systems, with hands‑on experience in lab environments and familiarity with embedded systems and communication protocols.
