Viola: Assistant Principal & Section — Opera Spotlight

The San Francisco Opera is holding auditions for Assistant Principal Viola and Section Viola positions. The repertoire for the auditions will be available on August 15, 2026. The audition dates are set for October 26-29, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to check back on the specified date for the repertoire details.

The positions offer a minimum salary guarantee of $ for the Assistant Principal and $ for the Section Viola. The season consists of 24 weeks, along with paid vacation, pension, medical, dental, vision, and instrument insurance. The start date for the positions is in May 2027 or at the earliest availability.

Applications must be submitted by August 15, 2026. The offer for these positions will be determined following internal auditions. All compensation rates are subject to negotiation and the terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the American Federation of Musicians.
