STATUS:Part-Time Seasonal

RATE:$23.28 Hourly

LOCATIONS: Strand Theater (1127 Market, San Francisco, CA, US) and Toni Rembe Theater (415 Geary Street, San Francisco, CA, US)

This is a B-18 union position. Candidates are not required to be members of the union in order to apply. The successful candidate will need to join the union 31 days after they receive the job.

POSITION

PURPOSE:

Ushers are relied on to efficiently and safely guide the flow of audiences throughout events and performances, and to champion A.C.T.’s efforts in providing a warm, equitable and inclusive experience for patrons, staff, students, volunteers and visitors alike. Ushers may also be trained for, and assigned additional roles or tasks, such as Ticket Takers, Assisted Listening Attendants or Volunteer Usher guide.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

  • Safe and efficient flow of patrons to and from their seats.
  • To act as an A.C.T. attendant, answering questions about the venue or the performance.
  • Guide and monitor Volunteer Ushers assigned to their sections.
  • Distribution of programs, aid patrons in understanding how to obtain digital programs in touchless environments.
  • Triage and De-escalation of patron issues, with support from House Management Training will be provided.
  • Occasional light assistance in setting FOH transformations in support of a designed audience experience.
  • First response in emergencies, executing A.C.T.s safety protocols for a wide range of safety or emergency situations.
  • To undergo training to understand and demonstrate how we promote an actively;
  • Anti transphobic and;
  • Anti ableist culture within our spaces.
  • To raise opportunities for improvement, issues and ideas for resolution with a collaborative and forthcoming approach.
  • To help promote a positive team-focused culture, where issues are resolved transparently and openly.

QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES:

Required/Minimum Qualifications or

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with A.C.T. colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience working in a theater, audience management, live event venue, audience management, or large-scale events settings.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience where de-escalation, empathy, strong verbal and listening skills were exercised.
  • Training/Certification in Food handling, Alcohol Management, Event Safety, First Aid, CPR and AED knowledge are a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to respond quickly both mentally and physically in order to handle competing requests, complaints, emergencies and other high-pressure situations that might arise.
  • Agile ascending and descending staircases.
  • Able to lift at least 35 lbs. (stocking, moving tables, chairs, etc.).
  • Ability to see well while moving in a dimly lit space.
  • Ability to assist others physically in an evacuation scenario.
