Assistant Controller
Summary of Position:
The Assistant Controller will plan and oversee all accounting-related activities, including high‑level accounting, managerial accounting, and finance activities. They will direct the accounting operations of the company, oversee daily operations such as payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, supervise staff, and provide strategic decisions. The Assistant Controller must be proficient in financial forecasts, financial reporting, project managing, and accounting software conversion/migration, and identify department inefficiencies to provide strategic decisions.
Location:
Must be able to commute into the office located in 94005. Applicants must be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; the employer will not sponsor or transfer work authorizations.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Ensure proper controls maintained in the accounting system and code of ethics.
- Implement and deploy new accounting tools and systems.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement controls over transactions to minimize risk.
- Advise executives & senior staff on fiscal matters.
- Recommend benchmarks to measure company performance.
- Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit.
- Provide management with timely reviews of the organization financial status and progress.
- Provide financial analysis, focusing on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Support increasing efficiency throughout the organization via optional use of technology and adoption of new technology tools.
- Monitor organization cash flow and cash fund management.
- Manage compliance with local, state, federal, and government reporting requirements for tax filings.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Oversee the production of financial reports and enforce budget planning.
- Produce the annual budget and forecasts; report significant budget differences to executive management.
- Stay current with emerging accounting and reporting standards and assess their impact on the company, implementing necessary changes.
- Manage the process of acquiring new asset financing/loans at competitive rates and support cost studies.
- Produce timely and accurate budget‑to‑actual variance reports and review cost projections while monitoring key performance indicators.
- Participate in hiring, review, and coaching of supervised staff.
- Foster continuous learning, teamwork, and professional growth within the accounting team.
- Oversee training programs and identify training needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Required Assistant Controller
Certifications:
CMA – Certified Management Accountant, CFA – Chartered Financial Analyst, CFC – Certified Financial Assistant Controller; (Certified Treasury Professional a plus). - At least 5 years of experience with accounting software, including Great Plains a plus.
- At least 5 years of consecutive experience in an accounting management role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
