Staff Product Manager, Payments Wander San Francisco, California, United States About this position
About Wander
Wander is revolutionizing the $100B+ short‑term rental industry. We curate every aspect of the guest experience—from our smart homes to our intuitive booking platform. Our mission is to help people find their happy place, and our vision is to create the infrastructure for people to experience the world.
Backed by top‑tier investors and led by experienced startup veterans, we're a tight‑knit, remote‑first team united by our passion for travel, technology, and creating unforgettable experiences.
The RoleWe're hiring a Staff Product Manager to own payments across Wander end to end. You'll set the strategy and roadmap for how money moves through the company, from checkout and refunds to payouts, reconciliation, international payments, and a growing portfolio of new payment-related products.
Your mandate is bigger than maintaining payment infrastructure. You'll make paying with Wander effortless and trustworthy, improve the economics of every transaction, and turn payments from a cost center into a strategic product and, over time, a meaningful profit center.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who can move comfortably between customer experience, technical systems, and business economics. You'll work closely with Engineering, Design, Finance, Operations, Data, and external partners to build a payments platform that can support Wander's next phase of growth.
What You'll Do- Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for payments across Wander’s guest, operator, and internal experiences.
- Lead the end-to-end payments experience, from checkout and installments through refunds, disputes, payouts, and reconciliation.
- Lead Wander’s international payments expansion, including currencies, local payment methods, cross-border acceptance, and settlement.
- Develop new payment and financial products that create differentiated customer value and new revenue streams.
- Define and execute the strategy to turn payments into a meaningful profit center.
- Improve conversion and unit economics through higher authorization rates, lower processing and fraud costs, and better partner economics.
- Partner with Engineering to build a reliable, scalable payments platform and with Finance and Data to ensure every transaction is accurate and traceable.
- Establish the metrics for payments performance, stay close to transaction-level issues, and turn recurring problems into durable improvements.
- 6+ years of product management experience, with significant ownership of payments, fintech, billing, or financial infrastructure.
- A track record of building and scaling payment products where reliability, accuracy, and customer trust are critical.
- Strong knowledge of payment flows, including authorization, capture, refunds, disputes, settlement, payouts, and reconciliation.
- Technical fluency with money movement systems, including asynchronous workflows, idempotency, ledgers, and failure states.
- A commercial mindset and the ability to connect product decisions to conversion, cost, revenue, and margin.
- Strong analytical judgment and comfort working directly with transaction-level data.
- The ability to set strategy, navigate ambiguity, and align Engineering, Finance, Operations, and other partners around clear decisions.
- Experience launching payments across multiple countries, currencies, or local payment methods.
- Experience with marketplace or two-sided payment flows, including payouts to third-party operators, owners, or sellers.
- Experience creating revenue-generating payment or fintech products, not only operating payment infrastructure.
- Familiarity with high-value transactions in travel, hospitality, marketplaces, or e-commerce.
- Experience with fraud prevention, risk decisioning, chargeback management, or payment compliance.
- Experience managing relationships and commercial negotiations with processors, acquirers, banks, card networks, or other financial partners.
- Own an entire product domain that is central to the customer experience and Wander's business model.
- Build the foundation for international growth and a substantial roadmap of new payment-related products.
- Take payments beyond infrastructure and create a new source of customer value and profitable growth.
- Work with a small, ambitious team where decisions happen quickly and individual impact is easy to see.
- Solve consequential problems involving real travelers, operators, and high-value transactions.
- Work together from Wander's office in the Presidio of San Francisco.
- Receive competitive compensation, equity, benefits, and Wander stay credits.
