About the Role
Mercer’s Health Actuarial team is looking for an Analyst based in San Francisco, CA. The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office or at a client site.
Health actuarial analysts support senior consultants in designing, pricing, and administering health and welfare programs for client companies. Projects include benefit design, financial modeling, and benchmark studies.
Responsibilities- Develop employee contribution strategies to meet employer cost objectives
- Assist in the development of customized pricing and valuation models
- Price medical and prescription drug plan designs using proprietary Mercer tools
- Analyze vendor renewals and plan experience and estimate future plan costs
- Develop basic underwriting and actuarial skills while building an awareness of health care plan design, cost factors, and the renewal process including industry products, services, and tools
- Bachelor’s degree (graduating Fall 2025 or Spring 2026) with a concentration in actuarial science, math, statistics, economics, engineering, or related fields is highly preferred
- Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Proof of commitment to a Society of Actuaries designation (at least one SOA exam or equivalent professional certification passed)
- Legal work authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent and ongoing basis without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
- Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and advanced programming skills in R, Python, SAS, or SQL are a plus
- Knowledge of data analysis, project management, and presentation design
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Base salary: $59,000 to $118,100 per year. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance‑based incentives.
