The Staff Accountant will ensure that all accounting and finance-related reporting and activities are completed within the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly deadlines, in compliance with applicable Bank policies and regulations. A strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is essential, alongside the application of this knowledge in the routine processing, monitoring, and control of the Bank’s financial activities.
Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate a desire for professional growth, and be open to new challenges and approaches. Excellent communication and organizational skills are crucial, as is proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, with an extensive knowledge in advance Excel formulas and modeling.
In a small team environment, the Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of functions including accounts payable, certifications, reconciliations, management of fixed assets and prepays, month-end processing, routine general ledger entries, regulatory and agency filings, and ensuring GAAP compliance for transactions. This role will also assist with the annual audit process. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will play a key role in shaping the team structure and implementing essential automation processes as the team grows.
Working for the Accounting Manager and Controller on routine items. May work with the Chief Financial Officer in other accounting and finance-related analysis projects.
- Assist the controller/manager with monthly and quarterly close cycles, prepare financial reports, and prepare journal entries.
- Scale accounting systems and processes to support future growth.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations and collaborate with internal departments to ensure items are properly cleared and monthly certifications are completed.
- Help prepare monthly Board and Committee reports including regulatory monitoring reports and financial reports.
- Maintains prepaid and fixed asset schedules and set up recurring journals as needed
- Prepares and files various tax and regulatory reporting requirements associated with a Bank.
- Assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements
- Acts as the primary contact and responsible for the day-to-day operations for items related to accounts payable, certification, daily reconciliation, fixed assets, month-end close, prepaid and regulatory and agency filings.
- Assists with Accounting department projects as needed, including but not limited to playing a critical role in automating processes to improve efficiencies as the Bank grows.
- Minimum 1 year of professional accounting experience.
- Advanced Excel skills with extensive knowledge with formulas and modeling required.
- Good understanding of accounting concepts (GAAP) and control requirements. Knowledge related to transactions of financial institutions preferred.
- Ideal candidate will have prior financial institutions experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics or equivalent experience. (CPA or active studying for the CPA preferred)
- Excellent verbal and written skills in order to communicate effectively and tactfully at all levels of Bank staff, as well as with outside auditors and regulators.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a dynamic environment to meet set deadlines.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply concepts to different related areas of work.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and willingness to assist where necessary to meet goals of the Accounting Department and the Bank.
- Experience working with general ledger, fixed asset accounting systems preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve complex accounting matters
