Continuing along its highly successful growth trajectory, SFFedCU is seeking a Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter for our Golden Gate Branch in San Francisco.

The Position

The Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter position is responsible for underwriting all types of mortgage loans and lines of credit offered by the Credit Union, ensuring they are underwritten in compliance with company policies and procedures, agency and investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter must be registered and NMLS compliant.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Underwrites real estate loans through the Loan Origination System from application through funding. This includes providing preliminary decisions in advance of the final loan decisions.
  • Completes an in‑depth review and analysis of standard and complex mortgage loan files including income, assets, credit and collateral as needed.
  • Assesses and evaluates risk and ensures an underwriting process that is accurate, timely, and well documented.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with loan originators, processors, and closers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Who Are You?

Requirements, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires an Associates Degree (AA) with a minimum of four (4) years mortgage lending experience and customer service.
  • Experience in a lead‑lending role is highly desired.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally.
  • In‑depth knowledge of lending compliance, credit risk analysis, and pricing.
  • Ability to work on own, and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to complete multiple competing tasks at the same time, while meeting established expectations.
  • ICE/Encompass experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Current knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations to ensure compliance with FHLMC, FNMA, correspondent lenders, and regulators.
  • Must possess strong problem‑solving skills and ability to identify and resolve problems and issues, and also identify opportunities that can enable members to secure their financial vision.
