The Managing Director/Business Development Officer IV is based in San Francisco, CA. PNC Business Credit is a leading provider of flexible financing solutions for private equity firms, offering software/ARR lending, cash flow revolvers and Term Loan A, private credit, ABL, and other senior secured products.

The team originates, structures, and executes PE backed leveraged buyouts, recaps, and refinancing through long-standing sponsor and advisor relationships. In this role, you will originate and lead debt financing transactions with top‑tier private equity clients and oversee the full investment lifecycle—from sourcing and underwriting through documentation and closing. The role provides broad visibility with senior leadership and significant influence on team processes and culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead coverage and relationship management of large cap to lower middle market PE firms to source, qualify, and structure new financing opportunities for PE backed deals.
  • Maintain relationships with direct lending firms for partnership and co‑lend opportunities.
  • Partner closely with product groups (Private Credit, Capital Markets, Technology Finance/ARR, ABL, AR Securitization, etc.).
  • Analyze and qualify initial deal opportunity, assess fit, and recommend pursuit of transaction.
  • Prepare and present screening materials, credit analyses, and term sheet recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Deliver, pitch, and negotiate term sheets; lead negotiations of commercial and legal terms.
  • Manage due diligence work streams across underwriting, legal, and syndication.
  • Guide junior bankers in evaluating, structuring, and screening opportunities.
  • Maintain market intelligence on sponsor activity, M&A trends, and competitive dynamics.
  • Represent PNC Business Credit at sponsor meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  • Manage pipeline and activity within the CRM platform.
  • Lead business development activities for credit‑based products through active solicitation and cultivation of highly complex client relationships.
  • Leverage a highly developed network within assigned market area.
  • Work independently and may mentor other team members.
  • Prospect, maintain, and leverage a highly developed network, including dialogues with sponsor groups, financial intermediaries, businesses, accountants, attorneys, banks, and additional centers of influence.
  • Perform complex credit structuring and analyze financial information to determine if the client’s financing requirements meet PNC parameters.
  • Manage risk/return and actively identify and mitigate different types of risk for new clients, such as regulatory, reputational, operational, and credit risks.
  • Develop comprehensive financing packages structured to meet client needs, drive client acceptance, and deepen share of wallet.
  • Coordinate credit underwriting, due diligence, and loan documentation with internal and external partners.
