Relationship Manager (RM)

The Relationship Manager handles both client‑facing business development and portfolio management. The role may be part of a small lending team or serve as a transitional position within a larger team, focusing on new loan client acquisition and managing the assigned loan portfolio.
Essential Functions- Identify and bring new clients to the Bank, achieving annual new loan commitment/outstanding goals set by the Team Manager.
- Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with clients, circulating concept memos as needed before issuing term sheets/LOIs.
- Collaborate with underwriters, loan assistants and support staff to prepare Credit Commitment Reports (CCR) for new loans, renewals, amendments and annual reviews.
- Present each CCR to the required approval authorities; the RM is ultimately responsible for the content.
- Review loan documents—internally prepared or from outside counsel—to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure all items for loan closing are in process, managing client experience of the closing process.
- Monitor and manage credit quality of the assigned portfolio.
- Ensure each credit is properly risk‑rated per the Bank’s system.
- Evaluate and determine actions on potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss.
- Maintain compliance with Bank, regulatory and credit requirements while delivering best‑in‑class customer service within required time frames.
- Mentor and coach junior officers and loan staff.
Education
: U.S. college graduate in a related field.
- Experience
:- 5‑7 years of commercial lending and banking experience with thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
- Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
- Prior underwriting experience in the requisite commercial lending area.
- Extensive knowledge of the Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
- Knowledge of commercial and specialty group banking products and demonstrated ability to cross‑sell such products.
- Skills/Ability
:- PC proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
- Organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of multi‑tasking.
- Effective in a fast‑paced, high‑production team environment.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong decision‑making responsibility and accountability.
- Effective communication with all levels of Bank personnel.
Salary
: $150,000 – $175,000 per year. Pay is determined based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
