Position: Citi Commercial Bank - Relationship Manager, Senior Vice President - Digital Tech & Comms

This role is a Commercial Banker position within the Digital Technology & Communications Mid‑Corporates team, focused on U.S.

-headquartered startup/early‑stage software companies ranging from Series A to $100MM in annual revenues. The banker will be focusing on new business development, proactively identifying cross‑sell opportunities, delivering client‑centric solutions, and achieving ambitious growth targets for the franchise. The role requires the ability to deliver differentiated industry insights and knowledge externally to clients and internally to senior leadership. The banker will work closely with cross‑functional stakeholders including Treasury & Trade Solutions, Foreign Exchange, Credit Underwriting Team, Investment Banking, and Equity Capital Markets to provide a coordinated and holistic client experience.

Responsibilities
  • Drive new client acquisition across the software sector, with a primary focus on venture‑backed companies starting at Series A and beyond.
  • Build and scale a high‑quality book of business by proactively targeting early‑stage, high‑growth companies and their investor ecosystems, including venture capital and private equity sponsors.
  • Develop and execute outbound business development strategies, including direct client outreach, VC/PE partnership development, and referral channels.
  • Represent the bank at industry conferences, founder events, and venture community forums to originate and develop new client relationships.
  • Calls on clients to deepen relationships and proactively own, respond to, uncover and anticipate future needs, roadblocks or risks and expectations.
  • Introduce solutions to clients in building and strengthening an effective portfolio.
  • Work with product specialists and subject matter experts to structure innovative and customized solutions that meet clients’ individual needs.
  • Work closely with the Case Manager on the onboarding and retention of clients, ensuring the appropriate “Know Your Client” (KYC) and other compliance deliverables are met.
  • Identify cross‑sell opportunities to deepen and increase share of wallet.
  • Maximize client experience by proactively sharing market updates, trends and intelligence.
  • Drive innovation in the solutions we provide clients and further develop our business where necessary and appropriate.
  • Execute strategic initiatives launched centrally at all levels (Group, Bank, commercial market and EIB).
  • Network with clients to identify avenues for new business opportunities.
  • Administrate the credit relationship of the client, coordinating and supervising the entire process, ensuring the proper application of policies and institutional processes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Citi’s policies/guidelines at all times.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • FINRA 79, 63, and SIE or ability to obtain once on board.
  • Sound knowledge of banking and investment products and processes as well as a track record of providing sound banking and financial advice and solutions to clients.
  • Demonstrates intermediate to advanced credit skills; structures more complex deals, including global transactions.
  • Demonstrates an expert level of Early Warning Detection skills.
  • Demonstrates expert level credit skills; capable of structuring all credit deals and guiding staff through the credit deal approval process.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of Citi’s credit process and credit appetite.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to coordinate multi‑functional teams to provide an exceptional client experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills (e.g. negotiation, consultative skills, leadership).
  • Ability to work under pressure while making sound decisions.
