Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting
We’re partnering with a growing investment firm focused on a search for a Vice President of Portfolio Monitoring. This is a newly created position being built to give the investment team much greater visibility into the performance of its underlying assets. You’ll initially focus on the firm’s largest and most complex investment area, owning the analytics and reporting infrastructure around performance and helping investors understand where results are tracking against expectations.
It’s a unique opportunity for someone who wants to stay close to investing and work directly with senior investment professionals, but is more interested in financial analysis, performance and strategy than sourcing and executing deals. You’ll be building a new function from the ground up, with significant autonomy to determine what great reporting and analytics should look like.
This role is based in-office 4-5 days per week.
What you’ll be doing :- Own financial analysis, forecasting and performance reporting for a significant portfolio of operating assets
- Build reporting that gives the investment team clear visibility into performance, from high-level returns and operating metrics through to detailed cash flow analysis
- Track actual performance against investment cases and forecasts, identifying meaningful variances and their underlying drivers
- Develop models and analytics that help explain how individual assets and the broader portfolio are performing
- Surface issues early, develop a point of view around what's driving them, and provide the investment team with the information needed to determine next steps
- Create a more structured and consistent reporting cadence, replacing work currently being handled directly by investment professionals
- Lead recurring performance discussions and present clear, decision-useful analysis to senior members of the firm
- Work closely with Finance, Partners, and the investment team while maintaining clear separation between performance analysis and investment decision-making
- Help define and build a new analytics function that could evolve as the firm and its portfolio continue to grow
- 6+ years of experience with an exceptional financial and analytical foundation
- Background in investment banking, private equity portfolio analytics / FP&A, or highly commercial corporate FP&A
- Advanced financial modeling skills and the ability to move comfortably between granular analysis and the bigger picture
- Strong understanding of forecasting, cash flows, variance analysis and investment performance
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work closely with senior investment professionals
- Someone who can identify and clearly articulate a problem without needing to personally own the ultimate commercial decision
- Low ego, collaborative and comfortable building structure in a newly created role
