Director of Finance & Accounting

Position Summary

The Director of Finance & Accounting will serve as Ingrid & Isabel’s senior in-house financial leader, combining the responsibilities of a Controller with forward-looking financial planning and analysis.

This hands-on role owns the accuracy of the company’s financials while providing the insight needed to manage and grow the business. The Director will lead accounting, reporting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, profitability analysis, and financial systems and processes. They will help leadership understand what happened, why it happened, what is likely to happen next, and what actions should be taken.

Reporting to the Founder and CEO, this individual will establish internal ownership of the finance and accounting function while modernizing the systems and structure that support it.

Initial Priorities
  • Evaluate the current finance and accounting structure and restructure the current outsourced model
  • Improve Net Suite reporting, workflows, controls, and data integrity, reducing reliance on manual spreadsheets.
  • Develop clear financial and operating dashboards that provide leadership with timely, actionable insights.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, financial statements, reconciliations, accruals, inventory accounting, reserves, and internal controls.
  • Review financial results with an investigative mindset, identifying errors, anomalies, risks, and opportunities before reports are finalized.
  • Lead the annual budget, rolling forecast, and 13-week cash-flow forecast.
  • Analyze performance against budget and forecast, explain significant variances, and recommend actions.
  • Establish reliable profitability reporting by brand, channel, customer, program, category, and product, where meaningful.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of growth initiatives, new business opportunities, pricing, inventory commitments, and other strategic decisions.
  • Develop clear financial and operating dashboards that provide leadership with timely, actionable insights.
  • Lead a monthly business review that keeps leadership current on performance, trends, and the decisions in front of them.
  • Own reporting of inventory and working-capital, including valuation, landed costs, aging, reserves, turns, purchasing commitments, and cash requirements.
  • Improve Net Suite reporting, workflows, controls, and data integrity while reducing reliance on manual spreadsheets.
  • Evaluate the current outsourced finance and accounting structure and determine which responsibilities should be brought in-house, automated, restructured, or remain outsourced.
  • Direct external accounting, audit, tax, and other financial partners and build an appropriately sized internal team.
  • Serve as a financial thought partner to the Founder and CEO and communicate financial information clearly across the organization.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience as a Controller, Director of Finance & Accounting, or comparable senior leader.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, inventory accounting, internal controls, and audit preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, financial modeling, and profitability analysis.
  • Experience in an inventory-based consumer products, apparel, retail, wholesale, or e-commerce business strongly preferred.
  • Strong Net Suite experience, including reporting, workflows, controls, and data integrity.
  • Experience managing or restructuring outsourced accounting and finance providers.
  • Strong analytical and commercial judgment with the ability to identify insights and recommend action.
  • Hands-on, accountable, and comfortable working across both detailed accounting and broader business strategy.
  • Clear and effective communicator who can make financial information understandable and actionable.
