As a Supervisory Asylum Officer, you will supervise a team of Asylum Officers, observe Asylum Officer interviews, review proposed adjudications to ensure that an appropriate level of quality is maintained, complete performance evaluations, and initiate appropriate personnel actions when necessary.

This announcement is issued under the Direct Hire Authority to recruit for positions for which the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has a critical hiring need.

Qualifications

GS-13
:
You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:

  • Making final determinations on or preparing legal briefs or other written memoranda that advocate for asylum or immigration benefits cases;
  • Analyzing the impact of policy, legislation, or country conditions on asylum or immigration benefits cases;
  • Providing technical guidance, mentorship, or training to individuals who adjudicate asylum or immigration benefits cases or who prepare legal briefs or other written memoranda that advocate for asylum or immigration benefits cases;
  • Reviewing asylum or immigration benefit decisions to ensure proper application of all relevant guidance.
